I saw this and thought "I hope it was originally a color image", because then you could possibly salvage the details in the clouds, rather than have them as hot spots. Far too distracting from the subject matter, I think. But still, a image with much potential.

I just love this shot, and what a very sweet gesture for Katia ;(. It still has not struck me yet, maybe because we just "met" right before, but I know something will move me when it's right and I'll have the right gesture, words or something for her. Good job. This capture is just so wonderful

that sky is so vivid and wonderful! you really took advantage of it with this frame. was the shot planned or posed, do you know the young boy?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

misternow In reply to claytes [2005-08-16 03:54:18 +0000 UTC]

thanks man... got lucky with those clouds. you never really know when they'd look good for a photo. a little burning helped boost it a bit. the boy was selling clams to us, as he approached to dock, i took photos. i was actually on dry land, many think i was on the boat. i was using a canon powershot g3, it was quite easy to compose to get that effect using the movable lcd.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

claytes In reply to misternow [2005-08-16 04:12:01 +0000 UTC]

yeah, that's very cool.. i used to own a powershot g5, which i assume is simiar to your g3. i sold it to upgrade to a rebel, and finally a 20d, but i swear i could get so much more creative with my compositions with that "lesser quality" camera. oh well.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

misternow In reply to claytes [2005-08-16 04:22:50 +0000 UTC]

yeah, the g5 and g3 are the same, except for the mpixel count and the color. i just got my own personal camera a week ago, a 350d, haven't really broken the camera in yet. i have yet to buy a decent lens though. the 18-55 is ok, but i do love the long lenses. how id love to have em 70-200 L lenses... them white lenses are to die for. i do miss the g3 though, that movable lcd gives you freedom to compose however you want to, be it "worms eye view" or "birds eye view" you just swivle the lcd and shoot away.

claytes In reply to misternow [2005-08-16 04:26:23 +0000 UTC]

totally agree... i've been using my boss' 100-300mm canon zoom and i love it! i have a few shots to post here when i have the time. i'd reccomend investing in a 50mm prime. i got the 50mm f1.4 on ebay for under $300. it's such a great lens! the stock 18-55 that you (and i) have is not my favorite, but i love shooting wide so i'm forced to use it all the time.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

misternow In reply to claytes [2005-08-16 05:04:11 +0000 UTC]

oh yeah ive read about that 50mm prime. and i've actually used it, coz a buddy of mine has it. it's good value for money. yeah, maybe i'd go and save up for that. i've also used an 85mm 1.8 USM back when i worked for a local broadsheet here in the philippines. man that lens rocked as well. ultra sharp dude, plus very fast. im also drooling over this 28-135mm USM with Image Stabilizer... it's only 3.5-5.6 but it's a good all around lens to have. very sharp too. *sigh* if only they were cheaper. well, i guess id have to make do with the 18-55mm for now. good thing i too love whooting wide. if only it were a wee bit sharper.

galing. lam mo ba di ko na-realize na bangka ito. ewan ko, sablay lang talaga paningin ko ngayon. haha. i love the background. do you develop your own photographs? pano mo pinalabas yung sky na ganon? parang mas matagal ang exposure nila? anyhoo, ganda.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

misternow In reply to mothaca [2005-08-14 17:56:46 +0000 UTC]

tee-hee jijital na po ako eh, so most of the post processing is done on photoshop. pag b&w, talagang gusto ko dark yung skies, para may IR effect, so ni-buburn ko yung blues (black sa gray scale) and midtones. pero siyempre importante na tama exposure mo when you take the shot, para litaw lahat ng detalye. usually pag kumukuha ako, i look for areas na maganda ung midtones... o kaya naman i measure yung back ng hand ko. tapos adjust ko na lang to my liking.
