Description In the light of the sun, is there anyone? Oh it has begun...
Oh dear you look so lost, eyes are red and tears are shed,
This world you must've crossed... you said...
You don't know me, you don't even care, oh yeah,
She said
You don't know me, and you don't wear my chains
... oh yeah,
You said you don't know me, and you don't wear my chains

There are certain girls that always look lovely. It doesn't matter if their face is clean or cluttered with makeup and dirt, it doesn't matter if their hair is tangled, it doesn't matter if their eyes are red or their face is twisted in pain. They just are. It's unfair, to be sure, and some, in jealousy, even resent them for it. Most, if they do not envy, lust, long, or wistfully pine after this particular type of girl. The rarity of these girls make them all the more easy to pick out.

Cala Avery was one of those girls. On that cool September evening, she sat in her car, parked on the deserted beach. Her left hand flew over the paper on her lap. A kitten perched on the dashboard and watched her intently. To an outside observer, Cala would seem impervious to the dark red sunset that surrounded her and captured prisms in her icy blonde hair.

Her breath caught in her throat and she threw her pencil agains the car window, collapsing into herself. The kitten blinked, bewildered, but made its way over to its mistress nontheless. Cala scooped it up and held it close to her chin, kissed it on its soft, grey head. It tentatively began to lick her damp cheek. Blotches bloomed like peonies over her pale face.

Someone started to rap on Cala's car window. She put the kitten down on the passenger seat and proceeded to unroll her window, eyes locked on the gearshift all the while.

"Alright, look, this is a private-"

The gravelly, disembodied voice stopped. Cala curled her hands to wipe away the residual tears.

"Are you okay?" the voice asked warily.

She stared straight ahead, and scoped a tall figure out of her peripheral vision.

"No," she answered. Her reaction was so quick that to him, it seemed to be a trained reflex.

"Is there…anything I can do to help?"

"No. Also, could you, like, fuck off?"

She watched the boy run his fingers through his dark, curly hair.

"Look, I've tried being nice, but this is my family's property, and if you don't leave, I'm going to have to call the cops."

A low whistle emitted from her swan-like throat.

"Wow. Your family owns the entire coastline of California? You must be rolling in it."

The muscles at the corners of his generous mouth tensed.

"You don't know what you're talking about."

"Don't I?"

"I don't even know you."

"Yes you do," she scoffed.

"No, I don't."

"That's bullshit. Every guy at our school knows who I am. Or knows of me. No one really knows me. Not like they think they do, anyway."

"Is that so?"

"What, you think you do?"

"I've got a pretty good idea already, yeah."

                She shrugged. "Go for it"

"You're a girl who's gotten whatever she wants. You think you own the world, which is why you're here. You think because of your looks, you can get away with treating people however you want."

She laughed, and the boy found it irritating that someone so intentionally caustic could have a laugh like chimes.

"Yeah, you don't know me at all either. But I'd actually rather you didn't, so I'm gonna go now."

"Wait, don't-"

"Um, yeah, I am. See you at school, I guess. Unless I'm mistaking you for someone else."

And with that she drove off.

"Hasn't she been here before?" shrieked a whiny voice.

He turned around to his button-nosed little sister.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Who is she?"

"No one."

"Well, that was convincing."
"Go back inside, April."

"You first."

He sighed and joined her on the way to the lighthouse.

It's odd to feel annoyed and pitying towards a character like that but this is what she makes me feel. The introductory paragraph is amazing too, it's true that there are people like that out there though....
