Description
Thin did a net of clouds part upon the Earth, allowing the dim rays of the sun to gently kiss its prehistoric remains... if for but only a moment. But within that moment, more than mere dust was licked with those muted beams of sanguinity....-------

YES!!! It's finally finished!!!
The origins behind this particular composition is but a simple one: While browsing the news station over at Upcoming Pixar, I came across an interesting article -- or, photographic base, rather -- which highlighted the release of a new batch of images from the upcoming feature film, WALL•E. Intrigued, I made to explore the subject further and came upon this image of the little robotic protagonist:
[link]
(Note: To view the screenshot in question, simply click on the link and select the image featuring WALL•E holding up a small panel so as to catch a ray or two of sunlight.)
As soon as I saw that image I just... inwardly gaped. That thing screamed to me, just... screamed! (Well, almost anyway.) The word "draw" was written all over it. Naturally, I just had to pick up a pencil and paper and get to work.
I composed this image by way of superimposing over a printed version of the original, rendered screenshot. A light box was used, of course, as were numerous pencils of varying "weight". I'm estimating that the entire piece took approximately two to three hours to complete, but that is a wild guess taking into account the fact that I didn't time myself while drawing it.
If you compare the original image to my version (above), you'll notice that there are quite a few mistakes, many of which I didn't realize until I had finished the piece. I blame the light box, as it was rather difficult to see certain sections of WALL•E's body while using it. (I could have looked underneath my piece of paper at the original version during certain intervals, of course, but I had everything taped down and didn't want to mess up anything.)
In any case, this was a fun exercise for me. I absolutely love doing detailed drawings, so this was a blast to flesh out, from birth to completion. It will be included in my portfolio, as well.
If anyone has any suggestions, critique, or comments, then please don't hesitate to spill them out! I can use all the help I can get, so any assistance is much appreciated.
Edit: To everyone who is wondering: Generally, I do not support the act of uploading traced and/or superimposed images to deviantArt at all. The only reasons why this is the only exception to that rule (in my gallery) are because: a) the original image I used as a reference/base was not drawn traditionally, but rendered digitally, and, b) only 90% of the image was superimposed. Those who feel that these reasons are not sufficient enough to upload a piece of artwork such as this may feel free to disagree with me via a personal message/notification.

Hello there,
Thank you very much for the incredibly kind words! However, I must admit that I really do not deserve such praise for this piece, considering that I literally traced over an image. I'll probably end up taking this composition down at some point for that very reason. 20% of the shading I winged, but still. It really isn't fair that I'm getting a lot of positive comments for this, because it's a superimposed piece. Again, though, I do appreciate the kind words.

Thanks! Keep in mind that it was superimposed. I do appreciate the comment, though. Thanks, again!

A superimposed drawing is still a drawing.

Ha-ha. True, but I generally hate tracing. In fact, it's the only time I've ever submitted a traced drawing here on deviantArt or anywhere else (to my knowledge), and even then some of the shading was guess-work. Heh.
Thanks again, in any case!

Ha-ha! Well, thank you very much for the compliment, but my work could never amount to that of the creative artists at Pixar Animation Studios at this stage in life. Plus, I basically superimposed the drawing (with a bit of "ad libbing" in-between). Nevertheless, thanks a lot!

Awesome work!! Really clean in the details, and stylish by this composition and lighting well-reproduced! Have you really used all those pencils??
I love the mood you've managed to transmit through this picture! Thats stunning that you've succeded to catch the atmosphere without having seen the film!

Thank you very much!
I did superimpose this composition, so I basically traced a fully-rendered image of WALL•E which I had printed out before-hand. Some of the shading was improvised, but, to be blunt, I was using a screenshot as a guide. I still had a great time composing the drawing though, and, yep, I did use all of those pencils. (heheh)
Again, thank you for the comment! I'm glad you like it.

Reference use is okay for important details of subjects you don't really know, don't worry
You're very welcome!
Keep up the good skills!

Hey duderz; interesting process on how you made this piece... I love it when DA members actually explain alittle on how they get their final product. Learning different techniques from others is like getting an early Christmas present :^)__

Hey there, dude.
I'm glad that I was able to provide a fellow deviant with extra information by explaining the process! I always thought that people saw my exaggerated comments as tiresome and drawn out, so it's nice to know that someone finds them useful now and again. Heheh.
Thank you very much!

Ha! You know, I only realized that I screwed up his eyes once I'd finished the entire composition. Nevertheless, I thought that it looked decent enough to be submitted anyway, so I just left it as it was.
