Description This was strictly a coloring test, to see how well I could shade a character. The colors themselves are not at all accurate. I tried to get them as close to the screenshot as I could, but I couldn't seem to locate the exact colors I wanted in Photoshop. I directly copied a screenshot, so it's nothing original -- just a test.

Awesome! I love it. I think Czarine's right though, the shading on his paw should be on the right, not left. If that's from the source, it's their bad

Yeah, I think that that's the artists fault. I hesitate to believe this, but I just followed the screenshot, so I guess they're to blame. Heh.

Thanks, dude!

I like the sketchy look of this drawing. I'm not sure why, but I love it when artists show the little lines in their drawings.

Thanks, and I'm glad you like the lines! I also love it when artists leave the skeleton of their sketches behind, so I do it in almost all of my drawings.

Haha, I just finished watching the Lion King about 30 minutes ago!

Simba as a cub is awesome! Even though it's traced, I think you've done a great job. The shading confuses me though, because I can't really make out the source of light. His left paw would suggest it's coming from the left (right from the viewer's perspective), but when I look at the rest of Simba's shading, it seems the light source is actually to the behind him, to the left (right from the viewer's perspective).

How coincidental!

Unless there are two sources of light, this confuses me, as well. I simply referred to the screenshot for guidance, so this may be the fault of the artists.

Oh, and I didn't trace the screenshot -- I simply looked at it and drew what I saw. No tracing paper was used.

Thanks for your comments!

Hmmm, how odd. The Lion King was a very well performed and drawn movie... Perhaps it's 'ambient light', as when you're outside sunlight may be the light source, but every object around you reflects it. It still looks a bit strange though.

And no problem.

It seems odd to me, as well. I wouldn't think that the artists would have overlooked something like that. You might be right in that it could be ambient light, though. What a mystery!
