Description This is Kiya, a character is my DA buddy LavenderBlade's series of martial arts stories.
You can and should check out his gallery here:

He has like 2 thousand awesome martial arts characters here. All of them badass.
This image is a scene from his story "Enter the Crimson Eye," in which Kiya, the big blue hottie, spy, and mistress of seduction, woos the diabolicle Genereal Adams.

It is my understanding that Kiya was created by this man:

=Jeff3333, and is featured by LavenderBlade.

All I know is whoever is responsible for this gargantuan blue babe has my respect and adoration.

Absolutely amazing - you've done wonders for a character I could just never do justice to - you've captured everything I designed but so much better than I could

Well thank you very much. I think it's all in the design, you did a really great job with that. And likewise I think LavenderBlade's renditions of her are great. My hat is off to both of you gentleman.

I'm glad you like her design - she's a character I've had/worked on for some time but never found the place to use her until now.

Thank you. It's always changing it seems. Things I did a last year or even a few months ago look different than new stuff. Not neccesarily better or worse.

If I way ask, was this colored with markers?

mitchatt In reply to LavenderBlade [2008-10-31 20:58:44 +0000 UTC]

Yes it was. All markers with just a little white colored pencil on her sash and on the butterflies.

Prismacolor? Copics? I'm a marker junkie and your techniques are superb!

Both. Mostly Copics, I find they give the best solid wash of color and layer pretty evenly. But for Kiya's skin I used a Prisma "light cerulian blue."
I keep about 12-15 prisma's on hand which I consider just standard colors I use all the time.
Blush pink, carmine red, true blue, copenhagen, grass green, light ceruilaian blue, violet mist, scarlet.

All my flesh tones are copic. I don't think I'd trust anything else for skin. Again, this is because they layer very well and I think offer more control than the prisma.

Copics are indeed the best, I'd have them all if it were not for that fact that they cost so much.

I use Copic, Prismacolor, Tria Letraset Pantones, and these new DickBlick Studio markers. I have to get more of the skin tone Copics.

It's very cool to see another marker fan here. You certaintly have great skills, especially laying the colors.

Big marker fan. They are easily my favorite thing to work with. When you've got a good stock of colors (and no dried out ones), there's nothing better.
I find that for skin tones my favorite copics are Yellowish Skin Pink, Barley Beige, Light Suntan, and Tea Rose, and Milky White for light undertones.

I really have to complete a good Copic skin tone grouping. What retailer do you recommend if I may ask? I usually use DickBlick and I've heard good things about Jerry's Artarama. Have you ever had a Copic dry up thus far? I've had them for over four years and they seem to hold up for a long time. My Prismacolors usally dry up the quickest.

I have been getting my copics from Dick Blick, which is fine cause they have a great selection, but sucks because they don't sell the refills. They hold up pretty good but nothing is worse than starting a big area and it drying up half way through. I first found copics online. I ordered a batch of warm greys and refills. Then later got some skin tones and refills, but lately I've just been buying them at the store.
I'd say to check online if you got the cheddar. That's been my problem lately. No extra cheddar.
