...Pretty sure in this particular game the fire emblem is used by Bern, and its a ruby with the seal of Bern on it. Its also the key to unlocking the Sword of Seals from Roys game.

I think it depends which game its in. In FE9 it was a bronze medallion. In FE7 it was supposed to be a... *checks* round gem with two dragons around it for design. That's the manga take on it, anyway.

True story... the fire emblem is so tangential and unimportant in this game.

In FE8 it's the last sacred stone, so that's pretty important. In the very first one (or at least the remake for the DS) it allows Marth to open any chests and is pretty important. In FE9 and 10, it's central to both stories.

Its also very important in FE6, which also takes place on Elibe. So this one is very important, just not in this game.
