Description
Edit 7/8/2022: Made some slight changes! Nothing crazy enough to get my lazy self to redraw the entire 2020 version though His eyes are drawn in a more traditional Kirby style and he has single fangs rather than double fangs.
The first version

Background:
Scops was born in the desolate country of Sable Sandhills on planet Rock Star where he was raised by an inattentive, stern single mother. Years of his mother’s lectures on the dangers of the outside world shaped him into a skittish and untrusting boy. He spent much of his childhood underground, either inside his room or roaming the local caverns to dig up gemstones to sell in the nearest village. In a childhood comprised of fear and boredom, the one thing that kept Scops company and gave him hope for the future was music.
One day, he stumbled across an unfamiliar young soldier being attacked by a monster and pulled him into one of his burrows to safety. This soldier was Jules, a member of the Shards Army, a loosely organized post-war successor to the Galaxy Soldier Army. An influx of monsters throughout Rock Star and its neighboring planets originating from Sable Sandhills’s black market caught the attention of the Shards. Scops became close friends with Jules and eventually joined the Shards too, if mainly to escape his precarious homelife and to avoid losing another friendship to time.
Scops and Jules were assigned to Neo Star (Kirby 64), an environment that couldn’t be more different from Scops’s homeland. As fascinating as he found this new planet, Scops quickly realized that he wasn’t well suited for the life of a soldier and dodged conflict whenever possible. After accidentally starting a forest fire out of self-defense against a monster and getting lost in the wilderness for two weeks, he was discharged from the army but allowed to serve as something of a prison guard to the Shards’s captured monsters. Scops found trouble soon again once he fell for one of the inmates, an intelligent leaf-tailed gecko monster named Illania, who he helped escape. They ran off with each other, but after a particularly nasty breakup he found himself wandering the jungle planet by himself. Scops began a nomadic lifestyle from then on out, picking up odd jobs, carrying a few possessions, and never fully losing contact with Jules.
As the years passed he never let go of his dreams of a career in music, though given his lifespan he has more than enough time to figure things out. After winding up in one of Shiver Star’s (Kirby 64) big cities and getting burnt out, he spent some time in Jules’s home on planet Floria (Super Star). Their friendship blossomed into a romance not long after this, and they founded a band called “The Sanderlings,” together. Things are looking up in Scops’s life for a change, not that much could shake his optimism even if it weren’t.
Personality:
Scops is a young at heart singer-songwriter who prefers a laid-back, nomadic lifestyle. As a creepy-crawly of unorthodox size, he is bound to strike fear into the hearts of arachnophobes and small children, but a brief interaction with him is enough to set the record straight: he is a tenderhearted scorpion who is easy to talk to and eager to please. While often plagued with insecurities and doubts, Scops quickly finds confidence and reassurance performing on a stage. He is an ambivert who takes great joy in meeting new people and chatting up a storm, but still greatly values his alone time to self-reflect and ponder the nature of the world. Scops has trouble saying no to people and is sympathetic to the point of being a pushover sometimes.
He treats his artistic endeavors as if they were a matter of life and death, getting antsy if he hasn’t gotten the chance to work on his music for an extended period of time. At times he can become quite dependent on others for happiness and reliant on escapism to find deeper meaning in his life. Scops struggles with academic subjects other than literature and writing, but is emotionally intelligent and street smart. Scops is also frugal and very resourceful when it comes to not wasting things. All and all, Scops is a fun-loving and non-judgemental fellow who, in spite of his anxieties, carries on a life of adventure and is dead set in pursuing his dreams.
Abilities:
Scops can ignite small fires in his claws and throw fireballs a short distance away from him. When Scops is distressed enough, he can produce larger flames, although they’re significantly harder to control and have the side effect of making him cough out smoke. Nowadays Scops is far removed from using his fire in combat, instead preferring to use his powers to light scented candles and toast marshmallows on the go.
As expected of a scorpion, Scops possesses a venom filled stinger that is not easy to miss. Not so typical, however, is the fact that his venom’s effects act slowly and don’t do any bodily harm or permanent damage to whoever is on the receiving end. All his venom does is disorient the target and produce symptoms akin to a mild hallucinogen. The most formidable physical weapon Scops truly has are his claws, which can pack a wallop in the rare circumstance he’d want to punch or slap someone. Scops’s physical strength is also nothing to scoff at, though it is usually only impressive when compared to peers smaller than a giant scorpion.
Likes: fringe vests, root beer floats, marshmallows, seafood, blacklights, neon signs, lava lamps, gemstones, thrift stores, wandering around grocery stores offering free samples, abstract art, pretty much all genres of music (his favorites being psychedelic rock, glam rock and indie pop), singing, playing drums or trombone
Dislikes: peppermint, thunderstorms, really loud noises, the limitations of his claws, athletics, hospitals, anything horror related (he’s spooked easily)
Random Facts:
Scops has seven eyes in total and is missing the eighth due to a birth defect. This was the reason his mother named him Septimus, the prefix “Sept” meaning seven.
The name Scops, the one normally goes by, was a nickname given to him by a childhood friend. When he was a kid he always carried small monocular telescope to peek out of his burrows in the sand and make sure his surroundings were safe.
He speaks with a vaguely English accent and has a habit of calling people by terms of endearment like “love” and “sunshine.”
Doing impressions of people’s singing or regular speech is a talent of his.
The large “horn” that extends out of the top and back of his head is loosely based on a cassowary’s casque. Scops’s casque is mostly hollow and helps amplify his voice, pick up on minute sounds, and listen to sounds of frequencies outside the hearing range of most other creatures.
Like other scorpions, his body glows brightly under blacklights
Among planet Rock Star’s scorpions and spiders, those who possess venom that isn’t dangerous, or at least paralysis-inducing, are labelled "defective" and looked down upon as weak. Regardless of what they think, Scops is thankful his venom is harmless.
