Oh! You have the deep knowledge about fighter in World War II.
The engine of Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien was DB601 produced under license definitely.
Unfortunately the industrial technology at the time of Japan was not able to completely produce this liquid cooling-type engines.
The pilots had to fight with an incomplete fighter.

Though it was made 80 years ago, it is a beautiful body.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. repaired "HIEN" as a commemorative project of the 120th anniversary of the foundation.
It is the thing which it is to remember the technical history and succession, and not cherishes war.
I looked at this body and thought that it was too weak. What a fear to board this, and to make an aerial dogfight would be it.
I was not born all over the wartime and am lucky.

Our past is what define us, we don't have to be ashamed of it.
The pilots of this fighters were honourable men who put their own lives at risk.
Restoring this airplane is the best way to remeber them.

How many young men would clamor to get into one of those and fly into combat today? Terrifying when you think about it.

Please do not worry.
The reason why KAWASAKI repaired this fighter is not that we glamorize the war.
In now when 70 years passed from World War II, the Japanese does not forget stupidity of the war either.
Originally this fighter was displayed by Chiran Kamikaze Museum.

Too much life was lost with this fighter. They were the lives that should play an active part for Japan and the world.
The Japanese does not leave it.
