Description Ahh.. so I think a lot of you guys know that Sherlock is back after nearly 2 years of waiting. So what better way to celebrate that drawing this fine fine man.
When I saw Sherlock I was instantly in love with the show. I was a bit scared to watch the show to begin with beacuse I loved Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes, but I think I would like to announce here now that Benedict is better..

I hope you like the drawing, the hair took some time but I'm pleased with it

(here is the picture I drew after www.theplace2.ru/archive/bened… )

Absoutely perfect! I myself do portraits too I've only used either Graphite pencils or Charcoal by theirselves but I've heard about combining them together works well is that how you achieved some of the really dark areas too? Or is it just the background?

Mainly the background and the shirt.

I have a speciel pencil I "borrowed" from my schools art-class and I'm not really sure what it is or how I'm

going to find a new (I'm running out and I don''t go to that school anymore
But the thing with that pencil is that it can do really dark even darker than 9B I would say,

Ahh okay then, I've always seen dark areas in drawings and always wondered how they got them to be so dark, thanks

Mizz-Depp In reply to ugly-organ [2014-01-08 14:26:59 +0000 UTC]

Oh thanks man ..
the hair took a long time, but I think my secret is to be excited to do the hair..
don't know if you know what I mean.. But I looked forward to putting a lot of details in it

and not just hurry and not just hurry up and do it .. put as many details in one lock hair as you put in the eyes.

It quickly becomes boring, but when you see how good it looks, you can not really help it.

And of course it is impotant to have a picture that i detaield enough so you can see all the small thing.

It's all about drawing what you see and not what you THINK you se

thanks again.. hope that helped ^_^

How on earth do you get your drawings to look so smooth in some places and perfectly textured in others? Like, his hair and skin is very smooth while his coat is not so much. Is this graphite?! It looks very real!

Sorry to pester you with so many questions, but I'm a learner... Anyway, your art is downright amazing! I hope plenty of other people tell you that.

Mizz-Depp In reply to PatchesWolf [2014-01-08 00:20:59 +0000 UTC]

Ohh thank you so much.. it was something new I tried.
I used graphite pencils to all the details and charcoal pencils for

the background and the things that wasn't in focus.

The problem with graphite is that when you scan the drawing the really black spots on the drawing sometimes gets messed up

by the light from the scanner.. but you can fix that in Photoshop ^_^
This doesn't happen with charcoal but charcoal is a lot harder to handel I think..
Hope this helps

PatchesWolf In reply to Mizz-Depp [2014-01-08 02:45:30 +0000 UTC]

Since I currently don't have accesses to scanning, I take photographs of my completed work in the best light possible. I've never played with charcoal, but I bet it's about as frustrating as the soft pastels that I've used.

Anyway that helped a lot! Thanks!
