Description
There are spoilers in the description....and well I guess in the picture too if you've never seen or aren't caught up with either show.I'm a huge fan of RWBY, I have all the episodes, the merchandise, Fan characters, you name it. My favorite character was Pyrrah Nikos. Not just saying that cause she was a badass in the series, I mean from like, Season 1, episode 3, that last half second they showed her, she was my favorite character. And I was pretty bummed out when she died. But while I was finished watching RWBY season 3 and needed something else to watch I caught up on Red vs Blue from season 8 where I left off. Caught all the way up, finished season 13, only to run into another character death. Church wasn't my favorite, my favorite died in like, season 10. But his "going away" speech at the end of season 13 closely correlated with what went down in RWBY season three, and I wanted to made a picture that had both of them in it. I thought it came out pretty well at the time, but this was from like....hella early this year so, in retrospect, *cough* not so much.

I was fragmented. As a child, because of what I was and what people did to me, I became three people: the survivor, the child, and the warrior. These shows made me realize to what extent after living as a trinity for most of my life. Their journey gave me what I needed to puzzle out the steps to become whole again. These series are a love letter to humanity. RWBY is the essence of myth made manifest. Red vs Blue is the tale of the gone but not forgotten soldier. Between the two, you get to see a lot of the best that the human soul has to offer. Red vs Blue captures the mundane pauses of life between battle. RWBY captures the struggle not to sink to cynicism when faced with seemingly hopeless odds of winning. Red vs Blue was Rooster Teeth's flagship, paving the way for new and untested mediums of storytelling in a format that would become more easily accessible to a wider audience, but RWBY is what really pushed the writing staff that had accumulated at Rooster Teeth to create something more. RWBY carries on the comedy, but also brought with it the best parts of Red vs Blue: the humanity of each character, the grim realization that not everyone gets a happy ending, and the hope of a new day even when it seems that the night will never end. That's what I feel makes the tales of Rooster Teeth special: the resilience of those who walk the path the writers lay before their own creations. The hope of a hero. A love letter to humanity.Β

Hey, I'm just commenting on what is. You did credit to two of the most impactful deaths in CG-storytelling. In all honesty, I should be thanking you. The world needs art. It needs fun. And that's something that I think we as adults tend to forget. There's a reason why games are used to facilitate learning in small children. It's to teach them that education can rewarding on its own. It can be fun. Without it, their minds would not be as open to the plethora of knowledge that they as fledgling humans are otherwise capable of assimilating. Humanity is made up of moments of tragedy, levity, and everything that spans the canyon between the extremes. We need fun in this world if we're going to survive. You and other artists are not just architects of human enjoyment - you're provocateurs. I once told my grandpa that you can lead a man to knowledge, but that you can't make him think. Artists and writers - that's our job. It's our job to invoke emotion, the desire to learn, and inspire the uninspired.Β
The existence of thousands of years of art and literature certainly does much to support this idea.Β

But Pyrrha's sacrifice didn't do anything. It didn't change anything and only cause unnecessary pain for a lot of people.

That's the thing: the hero never gets to know if their sacrifice managed to accomplish anything. Pyrrah faced an enemy she knew she couldn't defeat. She did what she could to stall Cinder, knowing it would only result in her death.Β

"Um... Who are you...?"
"My name is Alp... no, Eps... no, you can call me Church."
"Okay, what are you?"
"That's kind of complicated. Think of me as the memory of an echo of something and someone that could have been in your life in a different world... No, that doesn't matter. What matters is this: I am here to help you just like I tried to help a woman who might have been your sister. Through that door is a suit of armour. It's called the Meta Armour. I want you to put it on. I'm going to show you how to use it and then, together, we're finally going to prove that, when the chips are down, we can do what's needed to save the people we love."

I think that is a good comparison, I think: Two AIs, both marked by an incredible need to redeem themselves for something.

Well actually they have different personalities as none of the forerunner AIs have a personality like church because they have to follow a strict protocol or a zombifying parasitic life form will escape containment and destroy everything. bit for some reason I just feel a strange similarity between the two.
