Description These drawings started as quick studies, but I really enjoyed getting to detail them out.  All three are referenced from heeling photographs I took at a local Schutzhund/IPO trial.  I hope to do more of these pages to show other working breeds.  It's interesting to see all the variety out there.  The sport isn't just about the German Shepherd anymore.  There was even considerable variation between dogs of the same breed and I hope to illustrate that in later studies.  The sport doesn't care about looks... it is only a test of a dog's ability to do the work.

i like to see all the diferences between them, specially the shape
however: is that german shepherd a puppy/"teenage"? i dunno why but it looks like one

Thanks, yeah it was very interesting to see all the different dogs doing the same exercises.  Even most of the dogs within the same breed looked VERY different from each other... something you'd never get to see at a conformation show haha.  I don't know the GSD personally, but she could have been young.  Although she had to have been at least 14 months to compete for her BH.  I feel like most GSDs are "puppies" for a very long time though.  I think she also looks young because she was very nervous and had a more submissive pose than most of the other dogs.

The GSD looks like it has a bit of a roach back or a show dog not working, but the snout is just right. The bulldog looks a tad skinny. I like the type of coloring on them for the fur.

Thanks.  I think the roached back was more of a failure on my part to try to get the angle right of her turning slightly towards the viewer.  She actually had one of the straightest backs that I've seen on a GSD.  I exaggerated her features a bit in my drawing because I tend to do that, but she would have been laughed out of a show ring.  I thought she was a good looking dog, but she didn't stand out.

And yes the bulldog was very thin.  He wasn't my style of dog at all but there wasn't a single dog at the trial who gave even half as much effort at heeling as he did so I give him props for that.  Wish I knew more about him, but they were not from my club.  Drawing him was quite a challenge and I will probably try again with a different pose just for practice with a unique breed that I am not very familiar with.

Thanks! You should see some pictures of the little dude.  He looked like a body builder.

Thank you very much.  I hope to do several of these if I have the time.  If I get a little braver I will try to tackle some more unique angles and positions.
