Description
Verithin Dark Brown colored pencil, graphite, and Dewart China White pencil, on Manilla index card. Bought a stack of these cheap large size index cards, and started doodling on them. they take pencil and ink fairly well, and I love the color of them. Kind of old fashioned and discolored looking. I just started dodoling and this fun lighthouse came to be. Looks like something from the POPEYE comic strip. It was fun.UPDATE: 10-10-2011

Oh! It's attached of course. And it would be a challenge to model this in 3D and still maintain the sagging and rough around the edges quality it has. I really want to see it if you do it.

Look at the image, hardly any straight lines in it at all. It's an old building, sagging, leaning. It's seen a lot of seasons and weather. Rendering this in 3D is not about rendering hard edged boxes like your military and automobile images. To capture the lighthouse well, you'll have to think about it in terms of subtle arcs and curves. Does that make sense?

Hey! I wasn't yelling at you, just giving you my take on the piece. I am very interesting in seeing what you come up with. Of course hard=edged creations are easier to render. The lighthouse should be a new challenge for you.

With the slight unstable angles this has it has the feeling of a building that has stood for a very long time and I love that! You have some wonderful textures going on and it has a depth that's just lovely. I'm very jealous of your architecture skills (something I really need to work on ><)

This sorta reminds me of the artwork of Hayuo Miyazaki. Your details and the sky background are quite simular to his manga work and storyboards for his animated films.

I totally agree. Looks like concept art for a park attraction. TOON TOWN lighthouse perhaps? I like to think it'sa place POPEYE might visit in one of his classic adventures.
