Description
Pencil on heavy vellum. Digital coloration and typography. Seems as though it's such a hip thing to be creating Steampunk versions of all sorts of things these days. Here is the JUPITER TWO from the TV series LOST IN SPACE all Steampunked-Out. I'm not sure where the STEAMPUNK expression came form, and I don't particularly like it. I think it sounds kind of stupid. For the record, I prefer Retro-Future, or Retro-Tech.11/16/09

"Books?' What's a "books"? There are no books here in the Valley...just I-pods and I-phones.

Well we had books when I was kid...I think they have gone the way of the 8-Track tape.

Hey, if you can do a Steampunk (jeez, I hate that term!) version of the Jupiter Two, how about a similar version of that sub from Voyage to The Bottom of The Sea? I believe it was called the Seaview; always thought it looked kinda cool. Or...
Maybe the Nautilus from LXG (your favorite movie) means that it's already been done.

An interesting idea!
Depending on how well the Jupiter Two poster sells, the client has already suggested a possible SEAVIEW/FLYING SUB poster in the future. As for the NAUTILUS the original Harper Goff Nautilus from the Disney 20000LUTS is already the perfect retro-future design...or Steampunk as the kids today insist on calling it. I liked the Nautilus from the LXG graphic novel, but not so much the film version.

How old do you think I am? My parents are both in their seventies and they both can use a computer just fine.
If it weren't for Lost In Space, Star Trek, The Outer Limits, Twilight Zone and many other science fiction Tv shows and movies, we wouldn't today have the X-Files, Stargate, Matrix, Star Wars, LOTR and all this so called 'New School' stuff. People need to have a sense of history. The same goes for literature, movies, Tv etc. Too many people are only interested in what they have experienced in their own short lifetime. They do not realize that there is a HELL of a lot of film, TV etc, that came before, and some of it is fun, interesting, and sometimes even GOOD! Of course stuff from 50s, 60s, 70s was sometimes shot in black and white, and did not have computer generated effects. Too many people today equate that lack with BAD!
very sad.

There is so much NEW stuff coming out all the time these days, that the younger generation doesn't need to seek out the "old" stuff. Every time I turn around There is some new genre TV show or movie, or video game, or Japanese animated thing, coming out. When I was young new sci-fi films did not come out very often. So a lot of my time was seeking out older films that I had not yet seen. Old TV too. I read a lot about stuff that I could never find listed in TV guide. And TV was about the only place you could hope to see this stuff. I remeber one time Fritz Lang';s METROPOLIS was going to be on late night TV and I planned for a MONTH to be in front of the TV to see it at like 11:30 on a Friday night. Oh, yeah, we had no VCRs or TIVO either. When the movie or show aired, you had to physically be there to see it.
There were no revival theaters in my area, and even if there were, my parents would not have wanted to take me to see old movies. Once I had my own car, I could go where I wanted, but still, no place in my area showed old films. We had several UHF channels on TV too, that survived on showing old rerun TV, so I saw a lot of old TV there. Today UHF channels are a thing of the past! And cable is mostly about hip new shows. There are a few channels that show old stuff, but mostly movies and little old TV.

Poor Jupiter. It's the biggest planet, but loses out to Mars (candy bar), Saturn (car), Neptune (cartoons), Pluto (Disney Dog), Venus (songs), Mercury (element). Earth gets a day.
If it weren't for "Lost In Space," Jupiter would be last.
That dubious honor goes to Uranus, the butt of planet jokes.

Horrors...however, he may find happiness in a new love, named "Pluto Dee" and have a simple-minded cousin named "Pluto Dumb."
Now all he needs are four teen Disney sluths to help him solve mysteries...Prince Eric, the nerdy kid from Black Cauldron, Ariel and Belle....gotta get back to work!
