Description
Watercolor on stretched bristol board. Just felt like doing something sweet and nice. This is the view of an onion field I see most everyday on my way to work. I love the two little trees in the distance. I did this from memory, and am NOT all that happy with the results, but would still like to go out and photograph it for better reference sometime. I never have a camera when I need one.Related content

Hey, what's this!? Gone all respectable, have ya? The T&A Artists' Union (Local 537) will never stand for this!
Well actually, it's quite pretty. Simple and elegant with a charming "sketchy" feeling, very intimate and peaceful. Puts me in mind of America before industrialization; perhaps some rural locale in the '30's. I've seen pictures of Europe before World War 1, when the fields hadn't been shelled and it still posessed a quaint, 19-Century feel. That's what your landscape looks like. Sunrise or sunset in a quiet little farmland. Nice job.

We have a lot of farmland where I live. it's all big commercial farming unfortunately, not picturesque family type farming, but still some nice views.
Thanks for the kind words. I actually really like painting stuff like this, but it doesn't sell very well.

oddly, I see landscape like this everyday. Right now, the field is un-cultivated, and on the brown side, but will soon be planted and turning green again I expect. I like doing stuff like this, BUT I can't sell it! Boobs and butts sell!

Isn't it always up? It may be the only economic certainty we can depend upon. Last time boobs went out of style was... uh... hmmm. I can't think of any time in history.

And don't be puttin' no big breasted womens posing nekkid as the day they were born in the middle of the field! "Hominem Planto," said Diogenes as he ______ by the side of the road. And why be more embarassed planting a man than planting a cabbage?

Uric Acid is death to tree bark, and therefore ultimately to trees. In the interests of greening America, blueing the ocean, and redding Mars, I say cellophane wrap should be placed on all trees up to six feet from the roots or lowest branch, whatever comes first.

Of course we could wrap all women like that too so they can't pee on trees.

When and if you do this again, you should do it as a print. I would love to hang this on the wall. A piece of your work I could share with the entire family.... as well as those few uptight friends who come over.

Well, you could simply print it yourself if you like it that much. I'd even sell the ORIGINAL for a reasonable price if you are interested!

I think it looks good enough.
I think if you try even harder to add on to it. it might look sorta overdone, if you know what I mean. sometimes even the simplest things look better. that's just my opinion.

MJBivouac In reply to DumpsterKid [2010-04-19 14:24:01 +0000 UTC]
Oh, I wouldn't add to this one. I'd paint an entirely new painting. And simple is the way to go. This one is already overworked just a bit.

I like the effect here. Stretched Bristol, eh? I'll try that some time. I've only ever had mild success with watercolors.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MJBivouac In reply to Paddy-Wolfe [2010-04-19 03:05:25 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I cut a small piece of high grade smooth finished plywood into the proper size(smaller than a 9" X 12" sheet of Bristol), soak the bristol until well expanded and then wrap it around the board, fold the corners, and staple it on the back, It dries, the bristol goes taut, and it's ready to paint on. This works with real watercolor paper too of course.
