Description

This is Coyote member Houston 3. A mystery woman who was implanted with cybernetics from OMAR scientists and turned into a ruthless killing machine whose only mission is to destroy the Vigilantes.

Houston 3 was a loyal member of the Coyotes and followed every order Sid Burn gave her throughout their reign of terror in the Midwest. Despite knowing what she was doing was wrong Houston could not break her control bracelet’s programming.

When the Vigilante’s attacks on the Coyotes become more frequent and devastating Sid Burn panicked and sent Houston 3 to track down Convoy, the Vigilante’s leader and destroy him. During this mission Houston 3’s curiosity about Convoy turned into admiration for the man and his cause.

When it finally came to their final confrontation Houston 3’s feelings for the Vigilante leader overrode her programming making her hesitate when she could have destroyed him which allowed the man to escape. Witnessing her fight the programming made Convoy determined to help her once he defeated Sid and the other Coyotes.

After losing Convoy, Houston 3 found herself the target of Vigilante member Slick Clyde who dogged her relentlessly. Houston 3’s weariness of the constant fighting began to break through her programming more and more but Slick’s constant threat gave her no choice but to fight him.

After the final battle between the gangs Houston 3 escaped and made her way to desert gas station to recover. Standing in front of a restroom mirror she summoned her will and finally broke through her programming and managed to break her damaged control bracelet off her forearm leaving it in the sink.

Houston exited the restroom only to see the victorious Convoy was waiting for her. Convoy, who had developed a mutual attraction to Houston, offered to help her break her OMAR conditioning and help her find out who she really was.

Houston gladly accepted Convoy’s offer and the two drove off into the sunset in the embrace of a budding romance.

For Houston 3’s 1975 Palomino I went with a custom 1970 Boss 302 Mustang since it resembled her vehicle’s make and model more closely than the 1975 Mustang which didn’t fit the look I needed.

Btw the full name of Houston 3’s special is the Super Fantastic Death Ray 3-Ax but it was too long to put as the title.

Houston 3, Super Fantastic Death Ray 3-Ax Convoy, Vigilant 8 and above mentioned characters and vehicles are copyright Activision.

Mustang copyright Ford Motor Company

If you don't know what Vigilante 8 is, read this:

In the 1970s the world was suffering from a world wide oil shortage. The USA was heavily dependant on affordable gasoline and was on the verge of an economic breakdown. Strikes, riots and crime were running rampant and all available law enforcement were brought into metropolitan areas which left the outlands unprotected.

The Oil Monopoly Alliance Regime (OMAR), a foreign multinational oil consortium had it's sights set on monopolizing the worlds oil trade and it's biggest opponent was the USA which opposed OMAR's price fixing schemes.

Bent on forcing the USA to its knees OMAR hired terrorist Sid Burn to go to the US and commit acts of mass destruction and chaos designed to send the country's economy over the edge. Sid immediately traveled the American Southwest and formed a gang called the Coyotes and began targeting American oil refineries, alternate energy sources and terrorized and robbed small towns and settlements along the way.

With nobody to turn to for help, a ragtag group of citizens victimized by the Coyotes led by the trucker known as Convoy banded together as The Vigilantes, who quickly became a major thorn in the Coyote's collective side.

Desperate to get an edge on his enemies and looking for a way to cause more destruction, Sid Burn heard the rumors of advanced weapons based on UFO technology housed at the mysterious government installation called Site-4 located somewhere near Papoose Lake, Nevada.

Ambushing Site-4 Sid's robbery went bad when the Vigilante's unexpectedly showed up and as a result the world's most advanced weaponry found it's way into the hands of both parties.

With their normal vehicles modified into rolling engines of destruction the Coyotes and Vigilantes now wage a war across the American Southwest with the fate of the USA hanging in the balance.

My idea for a new V8 game: Vigilante 80s! (Gee, wonder what decade that's based in?)

Houston would not only be the main protagonist, but she'd be re-styled for the time. Think Grace Jones crossed with The Terminator.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to art-o-phile [2019-07-21 18:54:07 +0000 UTC]

The series was actually headed into that decade in the sequel 2nd Offense. In 2nd Offense when you upgrade most of the 1970s era vehicles fully they become early 1980s models. For example John Torque's car is based on the 1970 Firebird and when you fully upgrade it the model changes to a custom 1985 era Firebird

Convoy, Dave's Cultsmen, Nina Loco and Dusty Earth also upgrade to 1980s era models.

Personally I like the generation of Mustangs that her original car was. But I must say you made this car look the part quite well.

One of the quickest ways to total a car in V8 2nd Offense is using Houston's special and then an Afterburner combo with the missiles. Just watch that opponent's health bar drain!

Thanks so much.

Yeah the 1975 Mustang was nice but like I said in the description it looked nothing like her car  in the game so I went with the 1970 Boss. I think the only Mustang I really liked was the Shelby.

I never really went in for the quick kills unless I was facing Dave's cultsmen. Their spam attacks with the mini flying saucers pissed me off constantly. Especially at the port where you have to make a roadblock on the bridge.

426maxwedgie In reply to MJMJR [2013-08-29 16:28:14 +0000 UTC]

Not a problem.

Actually her in-game car is more based off a 1971-1973 Mustang. 1974 was the start of the Mustang II.

Definitely. That roadblock was not my favorite quest goal. Only thing worse, in my opinion, was anything in Louisiana that involved needing to flood the map.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to 426maxwedgie [2013-08-30 00:14:49 +0000 UTC]

Right, but they said her car in game is a 1975 Palomino which is their generic term for a Mustang. Almost every car in the original game is based on a real car of the 1970s or earlier.  So instead of something being a Mustang, it's a Palomino and instead of a Ram it's called a Stag and so on.

The booklet for the game lists her car as a 1975 year model so either it was a mistake on their part or they just got lazy and picked a year in the 70s instead of going with the actual model year of Mustang it was based on.

Yeah because every single time you had to make a roadblock someone like Dave’s Cultsman or Team Fast would spam attack with their specials and destroy the bridge to get at you.

The Bayou map was a huge pain in the balls if you had any vehicle that was too light or too heavy. Either you were too slow to get all the briefcases in one shot before the flood water drained or so light your vehicle would capsize if you went to fast and either way the friggin alligator would start messing with you.

426maxwedgie In reply to MJMJR [2013-08-30 01:56:28 +0000 UTC]

Right. Good old copyright infringement avoidance names. I think they just got lazy with the year on the Palomino.

On the subject of difficulty, it seems like each console version of V8 and V8 2nd Offense was on had a different level of true difficulty. The Dreamcast AI in V8 2 was way too easy. And from the few times I played V8 on the N64, it was the hardest of all.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to 426maxwedgie [2013-08-30 10:03:43 +0000 UTC]

I think they just went with that year to make it sound cool. 75 anything sounds cool.

I've only ever played the PS1 versions of the games. I know they did a sort of remake of the original for XBox Live but from all I've heard about it the game is great graphics wise but sort of lacking in what made the originals fun.

426maxwedgie In reply to MJMJR [2013-08-30 12:26:31 +0000 UTC]

I agree.

I bought that remake, and it's true. They tried to do too much with too little money and wound up dropping the ball. For starters, the soundtrack is just a "remix" (if you can even call it that) of the V8 2nd Offense soundtrack; just splice up a great soundtrack to make a mediocre one. All it makes you want to do is play the old V8s. They changed some of the combos from V8 2nd offense. Gone are the crater-maker for the mortar and the missile swarm for the missiles. The cactus patch for the mines doesn't use up all your mine ammo like it used to. Sid Burn's special is now just a mere flamethrower. The DLC characters don't have quests. I could go on and on...

MJMJR In reply to 426maxwedgie [2013-08-30 23:18:15 +0000 UTC]

See I always did the CD trick where I would load the level, eject the game disk and put in my own music CD and listen to it while I played so the soundtracks never mattered with me.

I also saw they remade the looks of some of the characters and I thought what they did to Loki was idiotic. He was supposed to be a demented test pilot not some 60s hippie with an army helmet.

Who were the DLC characters in it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

426maxwedgie In reply to MJMJR [2013-08-31 00:37:46 +0000 UTC]

That trick always became a bother for me. V8 2nd Offense had an amazing original soundtrack with a theme song for almost every character. I love the soundtrack so much that it's on my iPod right now.

Loki was part of the DLC, so were Houston and Shelia.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to 426maxwedgie [2013-09-01 00:18:47 +0000 UTC]

even without doing the trick I tended to shut the music volume off and listen to my own music off my radio or computer. For me it just got irritating hearing the same songs over and over again.

Ah ok. Even though it sucks I wish they would port it to the Playstation Network so I could give it a whirl anyway. Though I wish more that Activision would get off their asses and make a proper installment for the game on PS3 or PS4. It drives me insane that a game series that was that popular just stalled and nobody has thought to bring it back for the next gen consoles

I actually find easier to work sometime if I put the same album or playlist on repeat (and even just one song occasionally), so I guess I wouldn't have a problem with it.

The major problem is, sadly, that true car combat is a niche genre within the game world. There were only ever two big players - Twisted Metal and V8. Too often racing is integrated in with combat, which personally ruins the experience for me. The new Twisted Metal is guilty of giving in and having "battle races" or "races to battles." I understand needing to keep things fresh, but honestly I feel like doing that is turning their backs on what made car combat so great.

MJMJR In reply to 426maxwedgie [2013-09-01 09:53:00 +0000 UTC]

I get obsessed with a song or songs all the time but I tend to just pick a letter or band in my playlists and let it roll down the tracks until I finish what I am working on. I sometimes need to play songs or a band that put mind frame of the emotion I want to show in the art I am doing.

It is a niche genre but car combat could be so much better and popular if it would learn to evolve with the times. Twisted Metal is a prime example. They never really improve on the basics of the game. You're essentially locked in an area with other combatants and your stuck in whatever vehicle you choose to play as and all the vehicles handle the same basically. Its like driving a puck around an air hockey table. On top of this when your a single player all the enemies attack you instead of having some sort of AI and attack one another as well as you.

If they made it more like GTA 4 where you can abandon your vehicle and steal other cars and maybe add an element of customization, realistic handling for vehicles I think it would be a better seller.

V8 was always better in my opinion because the storyline was fun, each vehicle had its own unique handling and could be upgraded. And on top of this the maps could be totaled or used against enemies and then in 2nd Offense they offered in a bit more variety with the customizing and the upgrades.

426maxwedgie In reply to MJMJR [2013-09-01 16:59:02 +0000 UTC]

Twisted Metal 4 was the best example of improvement before the version on PS3. The ability to make your own car was cool. I never really noticed the lack of handling differences. I'll have to pay closer attention to that when playing TM 1-4 next time I do. Is there a particular Twisted Metal you were thinking about with that comment?

They attempted something kinda similar in the new PS3 Twisted meta by only having 3 or 4 playable characters and giving them access to every vehicle in the game. But I still feel that regardless of how stale the car-combat game might seem be, racing was NOT a necessary addition. But I like your idea. It could add quite a bit of strategy to the game. But they tried A LOT of things on the PS3 Twisted Metal to make it more interesting.

I agree with you 100% on why V8 was better. I would also like to throw in another reason V8 was better. It's one I wouldn't normally say, but I'm gonna say it - V8 had better graphics.

MJMJR In reply to 426maxwedgie [2013-09-01 18:12:40 +0000 UTC]

Well for me Twisted Metal 2 was awesome but after that they didn't really do much to improve things until Twisted Metal Black game play and physics wise. And then with the new one on PS3 they threw out everything they improved in Black and went backwards to the original Twisted Metal game play wise.

In the new TM most of the cars handle the same, everything moves impossibly fast, no matter what you do the enemies will gang up on you and keep pace no matter how much turbo you pour on or where you go. Its like they ramped the difficulty level up to ridiculous levels but didn't do much else except make the graphics better which seems to be a common thing in games now. They have incredible graphics but shit content and game play.

V8 had better graphics and physics, there's no denying that. It made it fun to play the game over and over again.

With the old Twisted Metal games the thing that gave them replay value for me were the unlockable characters and the story line for each individual character. It almost made up for the graphics seeing how Calypso granted their wishes and twisted it.

Twisted Metal Head On was damn near perfect if you ask me. Out of curiosity, do you dislike TM 3 and 4? I know they are not perfect, but they are the first ones I played. From what I have seen on the internet, most folks don't like them.

I remember constantly looking for turbo when playing the new TM. You need it desperately. I stopped playing it after the "race to a battle" mode.

Amen to that! In fact, I'm running through the first V8 right now. I picked up another copy of it, complete original release black label version, for $3 at Goodwill.

Yes indeed, I agree with you there as well. Twisted Metal's plot also makes it easier to reboot than V8. Twisted Metal is like a sporting event, whereas V8 is like a compelling movie.

I just felt 3 didn't live up to what 2 did and 4 was just more of the same. They didn't really do anything to improve the game play or story. It just came off to me as lazy and just hoping the fans would buy whatever they were pushing out as long as they put in some minor tweak or gimmick like Rob Zombie being a playable character or limited customization.

Like I started with Twisted Metal 1 and then went to 2 and you could see the differences and how they made 2 much better than 1. So with that I expected them to keep improving things with the sequels and they really didn't.

Like with Resident Evil, a game series I love, they kept improving with each new installment for the most part. I mean sure they made some clunkers but the majority of them improved on what came before it in most every sense of the word.

I agree. And in the new TM they make it so you can't tell who your really up against and if your actually damaging them. The most you can do is run and gun and hope that maybe you can take someone out in the chaos. Its a giant clusterfuck.

That's cool. I got an unopened copy of the original off eBay for 8 bucks last year because I wore out my original copy.

That's what kills me about it. V8 could be made into such a great next gen game if someone put in an effort to make it properly.

426maxwedgie In reply to MJMJR [2013-09-02 18:36:58 +0000 UTC]

I agree with your points there. They both felt like the same game, with 4 only being slightly tweaked. On the subject of Rob Zombie's playable character, I always hated how that car was called Dragula when it CLEARLY was the Munsters Koach.

I've played them all, and I can see how 3 would be a disappointment after playing 2. Especially the lack of Mr. Slamm.

One day I'll put an effort in to finish the new TM, but not right now. Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on TM Head On and Small Brawl?

Right! Only problem with that is because of the limited success of V8 Arcade, they will be hesitant to do a fully new game for console.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to 426maxwedgie [2013-09-03 10:10:57 +0000 UTC]

I know! I guess they got lazy and didn't research which car was which. Personally I wish is was Dragula and not the coach because at least the Dragula has speed. The coach is just top heavy and handled like a brick on a rollerskate.

Plus they beat the fucking Dragula song into the ground in that game. So halfway through the second playthough I had to mute the fucking thing because it was killing the song for me. I had the same thing happen with Molly Hatchet- Flirtin with Disaster. My nephew had a NASCAR game that literally only played that song over and over again. I wanted to hurl myself out a window after we had played it for an hour because it never played a different song.

I never played TM Head On or Small Brawl. After being burned by 3 and 4 I didn't bother with the series again until TM Black came out because I loved the creepy dark take on the game.

Yeah but since everyone has the same complaints about the game they know what to fix and can improve it. Its like how everyone bitched to Capcom about RE5's horrific AI, lack of scares and horrible story line and they managed to fix all that for the most part with RE6 and with the non-canon RE: Operation Raccoon City.

The only other thing I can think of is copyright issues with the Munsters name.

Head On and Small Brawl are both made by the people behind the first 2. Head On is the better of the two games. It's more like what Twisted Metal 3 should have been.

I just hope they eventually do go forth and launch a full console reboot of V8. It's about time for one.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to 426maxwedgie [2013-09-04 00:36:47 +0000 UTC]

If they used Dragula then they couldn't have had an issue with the copyright. I mean either way Dragula and Munsters Coach are copyright of the studio or the owner of the Munsters. I mean the same copyright applies to either vehicle and likeness.

I heard Head-On was a good game but still I never picked it up.

It is. I just hope they do it justice and make it as cutting edge for the next gen console as the originals were for PS1

True.

I'd recommend picking it up if you can find it. The Extra Twisted edition on PS2 features the remnants of the canceled sequel to Twisted Metal Black.

I agree. Might take a while before there's enough interest. Maybe they need a kick-starter for the project.

I think it has enough of a fan base where if they promoted it right it would garner interest. Every person I've ever talked to about the game loved it or wanted to play it after I told them what it was about.
