Description
This is intended as a counterpart to [link]Kaitlin is skinny. A lot of times, images of her garner catty remarks about how she needs to eat more, or whatever. Anyhow... I'd been thinking of doing a shot of her sitting in a corner with a plate with a single baked bean on it, but then I realized that it'd be pretty hard to see what was going on. Besides, the nasty remarks are often unsubtle - which means an unsubtle image is more likely to work.
Anyhow, I find it amazing that people are so concerned about whether a complete stranger is fat, or thin, or tattooed, or - whatever. As if it's their business, somehow? Well, if it's my business, I make sure my models are well-fed.

Man, that kind of stuff has bothered me for so long! I take a lot of pride in my health and and always eat healthy and go to the gym. The result? I am thin. I cannot tell you how many times people have seen me on the treadmill or even just walking around and going, "Oh my god! You need help! You poor thing!"
What the crap? There is a difference between being sickly thin and healthfully thin. And you know one of the ways doctors tell if a person is over weight? Whether or not they can see their ribs! Being able to at least see your ribs a little is a sign of health! I mean, obviously, if you're just a skeleton, that's bad. But people should be able to tell whether or not a person is sick, just built that way, or if they excercise and eat right. -_-;
Thanks for this great picture. I will definitly be showing it to people.

Yep. Oddly, when you're keeping dogs or horses or cats or... well, just about any animal that has ribs, the healthy weight is when their ribs are visible. And (I have dogs, cats, and horses) dogs, cats, and horses that are kept in that range live longer than ones that are fatter or thinner.
None of that applies to humans, though.

I'm pretty sure it does. It's the same concept. I know that's not the main way that doctors tell a healthy weight, of course. ^^

Well I've read some of the discussion raised by the simple and rather amusing picture. I find it fascinating. So I'll toss in my 2 cents. People snipe at other people to feel better about themselves. People get in your business in general to feel better about themselves. Prime example from my life, I have a friend who is diabetic. I call him a Sugar Cripple. No offense is meant with the name and none is taken. Its a ritual in my group of friends. If it can be mocked it will. One day someone outside our group heard me say this and got in my face about it. My buddy then sided with me, throwing this poor person for a loop. After she left we talked about this odd incident and I think we figured it out. The girl in question probably saw my buddy as different for being a diabetic, then called me out for stating it to the world. She was covering up her own issue of seeing differences by attacking me without realizing that by calling by buddy Sugar Cripple I was in fact treating him normally. So I think the succinct way to put it is this. The things people usually find fault for in others in merely a projection of their own faults that they try to deny.

Thanks. I've spent a lot of my life watching people stick their nose in other people's business and had it done to me a fair amount. I suppose that's what happens when you don't fit in well. I always try not to butt into other people's lives. I figure if I leave you alone to do your thing and you leave me alone to do my thing, then we're good. But so many people live with the "Convert or kill" mentality. It fascinates me that in my own experience, those who preach loudest for tolerance have no idea what tolerance is and are the least tolerant. Yet its very straightforward. You don't have to like what someone is doing but you won't stop them. That's it. Yet when people say they want tolerance what they really want is acceptance. That is a lot harder to get. I have a friend at work who is very against homosexuality. However, despite his personal feelings he says that if two gay people what to get married he won't stop them. That is tolerance at its most basic.

hah! Cute; I love it! I have a friend who's uber skinny naturally and whenever she gets an "Oh my God, don't you eat? You're a walking stick!" etc, etc, her general response is, "Oh my God, you eat too much! You're a walking elephant!" Which sounds harsh, but she explains that it's just as insulting to call her too skinny as it is to call someone else too fat. Makes perfect sense to me.

I really enjoyed the humor behind this piece. But at the same time I feel some pity for your models for having to be subjected to these commentaries daily. I empathize but I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum.
I actually do 2 hours of exercises daily (not including my morning walks), and I also eat better than most of my friends (which I envy, they eat pizza daily and not so much as gain an ounce) but I simply cannot not lose the weight I want to. I always had metabolic problems since youth, and at 18 I was diagnosed with diabetes. It really doesn't come very easy for me when it comes to weight loss, but I stopped caring after I changed my exercise and eating habits to better myself rather than my image.
Really, I'm married, have a wonderful husband, and on top of that, we're both healthy. Why do I care if that others are thinner than me? *shrug* Who cares what the media thinks, who cares if what other people think of me and my weight. If it makes them feel better to think that all I do is hide in a closet and eat pizza and McDonald's, by all means I can't stop them. But it never stops getting annoying to hear their words. It's not going to make me thinner if they call me fat. Plus, it's only 50lbs overweight, i can still see my toes, and I can still walk up steps and I can still jog 2 miles in the morning, it's not like it's as bad as they perceive it because it makes them feel better to think it's me that has the problem.

Exactly. Well, there's this HUGE industry that makes a zquadjillion bucks a year catering to women's dissatisfaction with their age, appearance and their bodies. They'd be pretty disappointed if everyone wised up.

Oh yea, tell me about it. It's a shame so many people out there so focused on outer looks to the point of obsession when in reality youth is temporary and you can't keep it forever, no matter how many creams and plastic surgeries you get. If anything I don't want to spend half my time hating my image when I can spend that time happy, healthy, and not focused on the superficial.
Again, I feel bad for your models having to deal with that taunt just because they're thin. At least they're healthy, and eating right. I don't understand why another person's image is somebody else's problem/business.
I'm glad you did this image, I hope people get it through their thick heads

there will always be some people who judge others by what they look like, instead of what they say and think, which would be way more reliable.
Not that these people will actually heed this advice...

I've never understood people who do that kind of thing, especially over the internet based on a literal shapshot of a person that, in all likelihood, is probably staged in some way.
Regardless of all that, nice picture. The companion piece is also well done.

I get what you're saying, but at the same time, it's not really fair to demonize the people who complain about the skinny models. Yes, the models are perfectly healthy, YOU know that, but do the people who are complaining? There are many women who do starve themselves and who are pressured to starve themselves to be models.
These people may be obnoxious to you, but they think they are watching out for the welfare of the women in your photos, even if they really aren't doing anything but cause greif. Just my two cents.
