In my experience, Bristol is fine for mixed media where you use watercolor washes as a base for other media (colored pencils, in my case). I feel it absorbs water media too quickly. Arches board is more versatile, even if you make a mistake you can just apply a lot of water and blot it out. And the best part is, it doesn't buckle.

I am finishing a graphite work so I still have not tried the bristol for watercolors. And I'm also scared to use it for washes, honestly. Thanks for sharing what you know.
