Well, the Hivers don't make a habit of mindraping you for fun and profit. That certainly earns them a few points in my book.

Well ya thats true, but the Zuul keep you alive as slaves, raising the possibility of rescue or rebellion maybe, where as the Hivers would wipe the Galaxy of all other life given the opportunity, Damn bugs.
Still the zuul are slave takers but they seem to be a race destined to burn itself out, where as the bugs, so long as the queen lives, could go on forever.

Actualy Hivers are quite amicable given the chance.
Its just hard to see that in game, since the things they don't like you messing with are:
their gates
their colony ships(each colony ship contains a princess. BIG repercussions for killing one)
and of course colonies(for obvious reasons)
Mainly its the gates tho.
They send them everywhere and most players destroy them with a firey passion, which just gets the Hivers pissed.
They can be very loyal allies if you get good relations with them tho.
They have also become friendly with the humans according to the backstory as well.

Wait Really? They became freinds with the humans? Thats amazing since the Unoficial human spacer saying is "payback is a bitch" (the official is latin for "through trial(or something) the stars") Im surprised that the humans would be so forgiving of a race that was pretty much trying to pave over them on first contact. But I did read all about the Hivers info, they are a neat race and a great ally for defence, Though notably I did once play as them and droped a dreadnought with a planet killer over everyone of my allies worlds in 1 turn, heheheh victory

actuly it was a rouge hiver princess named obsidian crown that attacked humanity, the other hivers knew about as much as humanity

...how did you learn that...not that I'm doubting you it's just that if I missed some lore 
lol but the hivers are a pretty expantionest race, I think our best friends would probably be the Liir as our planet requirements are very similar and we tend to not live in the oceans.

and I also agree that the liir would be our best bet at an ally, they need help killing off the sull'ka, and as we all know humans are pretty darn good at killing things XD

I red it on the sword of the stars 2 codex website, its pretty much a wiki page.
also I learned a lot more from the sots2 in game encyclopedia, in both it was obsidian crown.
and before you ask, yes the game sots2 is playable now, there are a few visual bits to be fixed/added here and there but otherwise don't effect the gaming experience at all

I...Don't play Sots 2, it's complicated and the first 2 weeks I had it the game would crash withing 5 min so it has failed me >
Besides im unto bigger and better things like sins of a solar empire and endless space.

Well it's not perfect but I like the ability to customize your empire. Sots 2 I'm going to give another chance too since they patched the problems and I was an avid fan on #1
A big problem with SOTS though is no single player story (a little immersion would be nice, maybe so mission based levels to get the feel of it) and a tutorial would be helpful.

I agree, a campaign like starcraft 2's would be awesome in sots...
they do have a senerio option but it dose not work >-<
perhaps on steam they will allow the community to create their own missions

Well as it turns out, the attack on earth was not a sanctioned Hiver assault.
In fact the Hivers were in a state of mass civil war at the time, and the attack fleet that hit earth was actualy the last fleet of a fleeing princess.
She had planned to take earth, regroup, and then once again try and take the "Jewels of the Crown" and become Queen.
Of course, we crazy monkeys threw a bit of a wrench in her plans.
Also of course, we didn't know any of this and had just assumed they were united.
Only after learning their language did humans learned the truth of the situation.
But not till after we had glassed many of their colonies ...
There are more details of what led to peace after that, but Ill leave that up to you to read about:[link]

Lol, don't feel bad! Erinys(Arinn Dembo, the writer of the backstory/universe) is just that bad ass of a writer.
She has been constantly dropping bits of info on the forums since(probly even before) the release of the game.

I just gotta say, it's fantastic seeing fanart from Swort of the Stars. It's one of my favorite games of all time and it's so hard to see good artwork of the races from the game. I mean the in-game art they provided was fantastic and all but to see m ore with the characters in perspective is great. Keep it up!
