YouTube A Sun Shadow for this Sunday!!
I had this idea from a long while back but it is also ironic that he resembles Sun Shadow from the Warriors Series.Β
Although he wasn't around much in the series, the part when Erin Hunter described his restlessness sort of resonates with me at this moment. I am quite agitated for so many reasons, ever since June! Like I'm itching to do so many things that just can't be done yet...
Either way, original or fandom-wise, you can enjoy this piece~
This is the first time I attempted to draw an anatomically correct cat, as well as create some dramatic sense. I further tried to create detail into the eyes, glow around the body and the long shadow. I'm sort of stumped with feeling whether the glowing cat or the shadow is the main focus, but I like how I titled the piece regardless~

Yeah I know the sun was kind of off, but the focus was either on the cat or the shadow xD
Yup I got some feedback that the glow under the feet wasn't right so I'll fix that the next time I might re-do this~

Hello from project comment! Just like to start off by saying love the overall design. It's very well thought-out, and cohesive. although there are some places that I'd like to make suggestions on changing. The lighting of the piece is too over board. The lighting muddles the piece and makes it hard to see the tiny details. When doing the lighting you should make sure it just highlights the character and not covers them up. The lighting shouldn't look like it's taking over it should just show off where the light source is coming from. another thing you could add is maybe making the eyes a little different from the suns design. the eyes look too reminiscent to the sun. Unless that's what you were going for then just leave it.
The line art is very steady and looks well drawn. The shadow effect looks marvelous, it looks like a real shadow. The sun's coloring looks similar to the sun itself, really good job. Not much else can be said about the piece besides maybe add in a background of some sort or maybe some different colors other than black, yellow, and red. You don't have to do any of these, since these are just suggestions. Just please take them into mind is all I'm saying. Β

Yeah I was noticing that a jpeg version would have gave less excessive lighting, but I had intended it to be transparent in the end...
Yes I decided to make the eyes match the sun, and I guess that effect was rather easily spotted.
I know a background would bring more of a story to it so I might try another time. I'll keep practicing and experimenting!

I have a fondness for cats, black or otherwise. xDD
I think that the piece is really well put together, how the eye follows the line of sun -> cat -> and shadow; like in the same way of light source -> object -> shadow. I really like your stylist approach to the fire in the sun and light in the eyes.Β
I would suggest fine-tuning the lighting: the rim light is a very accurate touch, since the cat is blocking the light source... however, the lighting is a somewhat uneven, and coming off of the cat, which makes it seem like the cat is the light source. The ear could have more light since they are rather transparent and thin. Some parts of the lighting is off-placed, such as the base of the shadow, and the curve of the hind leg. If you want to distinguish the shaped of the hind leg and other parts blocked by the light, then I suggest using a more subtle gray, or some other color.

Yeah I could see that the lighting is a little weird at the parts that you mentioned and thanks for pointing that out!
It is actually my first attempt at doing this sort of lighting and I'll try my best to practice more to get it better and more realistic.
And yup, I was struggling to figure out how to bring the outlines of the legs properly, especially since it's a black cat!
I guess it was pretty awkward to use the same sun lighting to distinguish those parts, and I was thinking it might just be that the cat's strikingly ablaze somehow...haha. I've never tried u sing other colors to somehow make those outlines but I'll try your suggestion when I draw another black cat hehe.

If the light source wasn't orange, then I would've gone with a blue-ish lining (to distinguish the hind leg... that is tricky thing to do.) But when you mix orange and blue, you get a grayish color, so you could go with that if you end up drawing a similar picture.Β ^u^

It shows very well, that one needs no big backgrounds to show a great scene. Β
Even the colours of the picture are very consistent. Yellow and the black make the scene perfectly. Above all the yellow eyes look very impressive. Thus I fancy a nice black cat :3
The only points of criticism in the picture are the thin neck of the Cat and the forelegs (I think, they a little bit crooked). This ruins a little bit the general View.

This is beautiful! I love the sun and how the lighting affects the cat, from the gilded fur to the shadow. It's hard for me to do shadows, so I appreciate anybody who does a really good shadow 
I like the minimal palette here. Even though I like colors, I feel like adding even one more here would take away from the impact of the piece.

I guess people would usually associate black cats with night but I'm glad to have brought this new idea to life with interesting contrasts.
I chose amber, oranges, golden yellows and some red for the eyes because I was thinking of some complementary colors of the sun. Added with black as another major color, I think this piece came out very impressive to look at~

Wow really!!?? I was really cringing with whether I was doing the lighting and shading right...but since it's a pretty simplistic, major back light source, it was manageable to figure it out~

Awwww for me, I sometimes relate somewhat to the villain cats, but I think there's a novella or some edition with Tigerstar that I have yet to read first, before I make my say about him. With the main plot books finished, I really don't understand why he's so greedy ;/
