Description It's time to start the new year fresh! One of the things I want to start doing this year is make more fully colored digital art instead of all the choppy traditional art I've been making. All together the tracing of my original drawing plus coloring took about 6 hours to complete. A lot of work, but I'm happy with how it came out. It seems that I say that with every submission, but I really do see improvement between each drawing I make! Let me know what you think!

Be sure to check out my other recent digital pics too!

Overall

The skin-tones are excellent, except for on the left breast (viewer's left, her right) - not sure if it's meant to be a tan-line or what, but it clashes. Apart from that the shading is generally good (not sure about the shadow on the top of the right/her left bicep).

The make-up colours are great. The hair is good, but the highlight is a little sketchy - just a line of colour rather than light reflecting off a complex set of surfaces.

The neck looks a bit thick, try finding a few references to practice that join between neck and head and the musculature of that region. Aside from that, the anatomy is nicely realistic.

The pose excellently captures the 'out of the shower' moment, but the background and the spotlight conflict with it a bit; keep in mind the sense of the scene as a whole.

Overall, very nice work with just a few smaller details needing polishing to take it up to a higher level.

Thank you for the critique. I will definitely keep this all in mind for the future. I wasn't sure how to go about doing the highlights or shading in general. I used to just use the brush tool, but it came out imprecise. This is my first time shading with pen and lasso and I wasn't sure on a couple of things. And yeah, the background I guess looks odd. I didn't want to use a stock bathroom phot and I hate drawing backgrounds, so I just created a red background to make the picture look more dynamic. Again, thanks so much for the critique and I'm glad that you liked it.

No worries.  There's plenty of tutorials on shading out there, just a matter of finding the one that clicks for you - best of luck with it.

I like the "out of the shower" look.  She's pretty hot.  But it would have been nice if she looked a little more damp, perhaps with water droplets.  And/or perhaps with wetter looking hair.  But that's easier said than done, I imagine.  I can't even draw a straight line.

haha I actually think I know how to do that now. This pic is from early this year when I was still learning how to color digitally. If I were ever to go back, I'm sure it would come out a lot better.

I guess this is just a random chick since I didn't see a name or series mentioned.

I won't repeat other critiques, and this is not going to be a formal critique. I find it overall to be an improvement on your other pieces, it certainly shows that your shading technique has changed. My biggest problem with this one is the hair, there is something not quite right with it. It feels like its is a wig, and the transparent quality hair is not consistent in the work. In the majority of the piece the hair is thick and not translucent, yet for the face you chose to allow the eye to be seen. It would be best to keep it consistent and obscure that strand of hair just like all others.

In what way does it look like a wig?

The hairline seems slanted, see how the hair looks like its heavier in one area? That plus the slant and the darker color strands on her right ear makes it seem like a wig worn to make her look like having longer hair. Its just an impression.
