Description
In 2007 I produced a painting called "Lunar Cycle" in a period of about six months. It was the most intricate artwork I had ever made and it was also the first painting I showed at the Elmhurst Artists Guild. It soon became a favorite and I sold many prints of the painting at various shows over the next few years, but I never sold the painting. In 2010 I sent Lunar Cycle, along with one other painting "Alchemy", to an art show overseas. I was honored that my work would have made it into a show in Saudi Arabia. However that feeling of triumph was soon replaced by despair, because somehow the painting, though sent back, never arrived at my home again. For many years I held on to that feeling of anger and sadness at losing two of my most important paintings.
A few years ago my mother had made a print of Lunar Cycle on canvas. It was nice to see it hanging again, but I was not satisfied with the resolution of the print, and even less satisfied with the fact that it was not the original painting. So I decided finally to do something about it. I took that print (sorry mom) and started painting right over it. I wanted to repaint it again by hand and that's just what happened.
So today I present you with a mild accomplishment, the complete repainting of Lunar Cycle. It is technically a different painting, being on canvas as opposed to the original Masonite, and with slightly different colors. A closeup will show that all the details are different too.
I call it "Lunar Cycle II" and here it is for your viewing pleasure.
