When I try to use this, the edges are always a slightly different colour. How do I fix?

you want to recolor it? try use proper software like Inkscape or Photoshop. usually people use bases they just redraw everything on a new layer.

then put into a software (e.g paint tool sai or photoshop)
make a new layer and copy the edges of the body line
