The first pokemon that Dakota officially "Caught" was a magikarp. Although it kinda jumped out of the water and flopped around on the ground next to him. So in the end his Old Rod was pointless but hey! Pokedex!On a side note, he looks way older without his coat on....Also I totally messed up his anatomy. I was trying for a new angle but eeeeeeeehhhhh it looks weird. :/
Threw in a lazy background because why not.

FOr the few weeks I actually played Pokemon, all the fishermen in the world wanted to battle me with their Magikarps. -_-
At least, it felt like that. I could barely walk three feet without being challenged XD
So yeah, I hope your Magikarp survives and evolves so it won't be wimpy. I know that's a sad compliment, but after beating a few dozen of those.. yeah. XD
As for the drawing itself, I like the cartoony ness of it, and I think you did a swell job
