Buckle in. There's quite a backstory to the making of this comic.

The initial idea came a couple months ago when the MLP season 9 premiere came out. I asked myself a similar question to what Moonbeam gives us above, what exactly happens to her when the villains attempt to take over Equestria? As soon as I began writing the script, I knew it was going to be a challenge. There's panels based on five different events from the series timeline: The Return of Harmony , A Canterlot Wedding (with elements from To Where and Back Again ), Twilight's Kingdom , the movie , and The Beginning of the End .

With that in mind, that meant I not only had to recreate scenes from the series, but I also had to draw four out of five of these villains for the very first time. And with the recent switch to color, that meant everything needed to be painted and colored digitally. Just last week I posted my first color comic, Milk and Kooky . Whereas that comic required only one background, this one required four to be created entirely from scratch. The King Sombra panel was the only exception. It didn't need a background, only a gradient.

Speaking of which, there were plenty of special effects in this comic that I'm very proud of. The glowing around Queen Chrysalis' horn and the stick, the color of the cocoon Moonbeam's trapped in, the orb above Lord Tirek's head, the flames coming out of his mouth, the jolt of magic from the Storm King's staff, and the glowing purple haze from King Sombra's eyes.

I began writing the script Sunday after midnight and began illustrating it on Monday evening. It took me until just this afternoon to put all the finishing touches on it.

Admittedly, that was a lot of trouble for a quick, one-off gag.
