to Amora
written by Queerly
Prayer is a familiarity that has become comfortable, nearly routine, yet as you walk the Sanctum's halls something feels out of place. The answer rests just on the tip of your tongue, yet you can't place it. You can feel it though, a heat that resonates deep in the marrow of your bones. It tastes like anticipation.
You stop at the feet of Ignacio's towering statue, growing keenly aware of how alone you've become. The temple is absent of other patrons, but you can't remember a time when it wasn't bustling, the collective warmth of jostling bodies enough to make a horse sweat. Yet here you are, isolated beneath the gaze of a stone effigy whose eyes flicker under candleglow. Trickster shadows dance across the statue's surface; for a single instant, you question if it breathes.
The words you speak are ancient and well practiced. "Ignacio, the Smoldering Sun, Father of Aodh and Patron of Fire... hear my humble prayer, and grant me your strength."
The candlelight flickers as if answering. Without warning, the world grows mute, a dull ring taking the place of ambient sound.
A voice reaches across the starscape. It knows you.
Amora.
It is a soft exhale, a rumbling undertone. It is a greeting.
Let me look at you. The god speaks, and though his presence isn't visually distinct it is felt, as surely as the prickle climbing your spine. He looks at you, and in the same instant he sees right through you, whatever walls you have built stripped bare to expose the vulnerable soul beneath. Yes. You are ready to choose, my little star.
You think you see the statue shift.
Amora, you have been mistreated - you have been taught to hide, but that is not the way of fire. I offer you my Light, that you might learn to shine as brilliantly as your soul sings to we the Stars.
But I also offer you my most precious gift, Fire, so that it might help you reclaim the flame you once held close to your chest.
Two gifts, one choice.
The god pauses, awaiting an answer. The nature of fire does not lend itself to patience, yet he is tempered, cooling - waiting, as you find your voice.

Prayer had become a necessary routine for Amora, calming her nerves and giving her strength for coming days. It was the one comfort she knew she could never be denied. The Sanctum’s halls became something of a second home to Amora in her final months with her previous owner. She knew every crack and crevice, though as she walked through the halls, she couldn’t shake the feeling something had shifted no matter how much she tried to shake it.
Only now, as she stands at the feet of Ignacio’s statue, does she realize how completely and utterly alone she is. Not even the steps of a sanctum attendant could be heard echoing through the empty halls. She basked in the isolation.
Amora gazed up at the statue, watching the shadows breathe life into the otherwise vacant stone. She recited the well-worn words, eyes never wavering "Ignacio, the Smoldering Sun, Father of Aodh and Patron of Fire... hear my humble prayer, and grant me your strength." The shift in the air startled her, and the voice, the voice frightened her. It stripped away every barrier she built up over the years to protect herself from this life she was born into and left her bare and shivering. A warmth replaced her walls and soothed every ache and pain she harbored in her soul. It was peace, like none she has ever known. The god’s words brought her comfort, one that she would cling to for the rest of her days.
She turned over the offer in her head, humoring each possibility. Even so, she already knew what her answer was. “I am humbled by your offer and would be honored to accept your gift of fire.” Her voice was nothing more than a whisper, but for the first time in many years, it never wavered.
Then embrace it, child, and remember who you are.
ref/traced from here because the shading was a headache enough

Thank you <3 I’m always super insecure about my shading (since I don’t do it very often) so this means a lot <333
