Description
This is my "maybe" promo card illustration for the upcoming Contemporary Pinups sketch card set from Galans Sketch Art Productions. I say maybe, because I am still not happy with the background. Let me know what you think or any other ideas I could do for a background with this figure.Related content

Agree with the above commenters. Also maybe try a warmer, more colorful color scheme for the BG? Check out a Victoria's Secret catalogue (seriously!) for some ideas; they do a good job of putting the models in appealing environments.

Well believe it or not, I did reference a Victoria Secret catalogue for the background. I guess I jsut picked the wrong pictures to reference. HA! They were a very neutral background with not a lot of props. I was assuming it was to make the models pop out more and show off their product. But they certainly have other settings that are much more warmer and inviting. I just have a fear of putting too much color in the background and losing the punch of the blue underwear. I will play around with it and see if I like the results.

Hmm, makes sense. Maybe try a contrasting or complimentary color--since her underwear's blue, maybe skew the background towards gold or pink?

Great figure work! I agree with squinky about putting some more in the room behind her. Otherwise it looks like she's living in an empty house. Maybe consider putting paintings or a window on the wall. Including a glimpse of a four-poster bed would be really nice too. Her pose is very inviting - showing us the nice, cozy, or sexy bedroom she's inviting us into would be a nice touch (and will tell us who she is - is she a college girl? an older woman? rich? middle-class? By furnishing the room behind her you make her a more complete character, even if it is just a pinup.)
(I don't know where your bleed margins are, but would you be able to give her fingers?)

Thanks so much, Amy. Those are all great suggestions. I can't wait to try to incorporate some of them. I have to finish up another sketch card set this week that is due to mail out on Saturday, so hopefully this weekend I can start to work on the background.
And you caught me on the fingers! LOL! I will put them in.

If you feel the background is too empty, perhaps add a window or some framed pictures? Maybe change the door color and molding to make it pop?
