Description NOTE: The lineart is not original art! I borrowed it from a comic by David Finch (Top Cow) titled Aphrodite IX. Unfortunately my drawing skills are not my strongpoint ;_; and I wanted to dive right into coloring now that I have a new tablet \( ^^)/
That being said all I used was the actual lineart, and recolored it 100% (not just a redo of the original colors, these are completely original for a winter theme). The background is just CG I filled in to have something there^^
Made it to use for holiday greetings mumbo jumbo

Used:
Photoshop 7.0
Wacom Graphire 3
Some hints from the great CG tutorial by Messa (someone plz tell this nub how to put URLs in descriptions
Imagination, Perspiration, ...patience @_@

Very nice picture, but it's strange that I found this in a dA search for "cow tutorial".

Haha... Not sure why it popped up for tutorial, it's here for "cow" because the base image was lineart from a Top Cow Comics artist.

Identifying lighting sources is one of the first things I found out makes a huge improvement in your work. Also, not only defining the primary light sources, but secondary ones (although not really well exampled in this pic, ie: Say you have a blue light coming from the right; it hits the armor on a leg say - this armor is reflective, and will shine slightly less bright onto the other leg, or w/e... so tracking the motion of light is also really helpful). Also, a good way to do highlights that a lot of guides don't really explain - don't just lighten the base color, but draw over it with a brush of the same color as your lightsource to make the brightest spots really pop. Also, to do the same, try duplicating a layer (or a merged set of layers), and set it to hard light. Screen and multiply, and sometimes Color are the other layer settings I use the most. A _lot_ of my stuff is made of sets of layers with different blending modes. Other than that, it's just using references and putting time in

Well I can see you've put alot of time into them. I love your style its amazing
For years all I've drawn is anime, but I always put myself down about them, even if I like the picture. Sooo I try to do more photography so I can make mistakes, delete them and retry. Bad way to cope with it....but it helps out in the end
