Following humanity's first taste of space combat during the Resource War of 2076, the Escean Interstellar Navy returned to the drawing board, eager to apply the lessons learned to a new series of warships. Among these were the proposed Pandoran-Class of capital ships, hull classification IBGC (Interstellar Battleship, Guided Missile, Command), first proposed in 2087 and initially delivered in 2094 with the lead vessel of the class, the EIV Pandor. These enormous vessels would become the largest of any stellar warship in human military service, and the second largest class of all known combat-capable vessels after the Thillian 'Admiralty-Class'.
Serving as fleet flagships, Pandorans are captain by EIN Admirals and supported by a wide array of vessels, to include carriers, destroyers, frigates, and a plethora of support ships and patrol craft. The design initially proved difficult to classify under the existing blue water terrestrial naval terminology, with the Pandoran covering multiple roles and capabilities. These included carrier, guided missile cruiser, and command and control. Its massive internal volume provided ample room for the transportation of large dropcraft, shuttles, starfighters, and ground vehicles, with the additional capability to externally mount unmanned Phantom bomber drones.
In terms of armament, the Pandoran carries significant firepower, to include: 488x SEASM-25 missile launch tubes; 276x AFM-701 'Stargazer' Vertical Launch System Tubes; 27x AN/SEQ-98 dual-cannon CIPDL (Close-In Point-Defence Laser) turrets operating at 100KW per in the IR-band; 9x 200mm K-773 dual-cannon railguns; 32x orbital rod dispensers. However, the Pandoran's primary weapons are a pair of 800mm, variable-velocity long bore E-Mag cannons capable of firing nine-ton 800 x 1500mm solid aluminium projectiles at up 2,150,520m/s, for an estimated impact energy of 5MT.
Nevertheless, it is the secondary firing mode of these cannons that acts as a significant deterrent against any hostilities in Escean-controlled space. Each cannon can be switched to a fusion-pumped laser, using plasma to create a lasing medium and focusing lens. Independently powered by their own dedicated reactors, these lasers are capable of firing UV beams of up to 3 terawatts, vaporising any 2m squared target within 300,000km instantly.
Pandorans supplement carrier vessels with their own sizable EIMC detachments, as well as hundreds of vehicles ranging from MBTs to recon FAVs. Up to 8,000 Marines can be carried, supplied, and deployed by a single Pandoran, along with 30,000 tons of cargo. The vessels are crewed by 3,200 personnel, operating with widespread artificial assistant programs. The ships are large enough to carry a full vehicle repair bay, as well as fabrication workshops for the production of components on site. Raw materials may be extracted from nearby asteroids or planetoids for fabrication purposes, while on board greenhouses facilitate continual production of food, effectively making the class self-reliant.
In terms of protection, the Pandoran utilises a multi-layered approach of physical and energy. Shield generation is handled by no less than three separate dimensional drive cores, enhancing the longevity of the Spacetime Energy Ellipse (SPEE) or Jerda Field enveloping the ship, as well as offering triple redundancy. Physical shielding against cosmic radiation, kinetic threats (natural or artificial), or energy weapons, is handled by an outer skin of ablative-coated ceramic composite armour plating measuring one metre at its thinnest, and three metres surrounding vital zones. Air gaps behind this initial skin are sealed with additional layers of composite plate backed with anti-spalling liners. Crew quarters, weapon magazines, and the ship's primary powerplants are further encased in armoured cocoons, with countless vacuum-activated bulkheads throughout. Exposed observation windows (each over a foot in thickness and fabricated from aluminium oxynitride) are shuttered during offensive operations, with the ship reliant on its vast sensor array to navigate, target, and engage.
Shipwide electrical power and ion reaction control manoeuvring is generated through a pair of fusion reactors, while main engine power is supplied via proton-antiproton reactions. Due to the catastrophic nature of potential matter-antimatter containment failures, the Pandoran is capable of magnetically jettisoning individual containment spheres in an emergency. Battery backups sufficient for twenty minutes and high speed launch procedures allow for sufficient distance to be introduced prior to containment failure and annihilation.
Pandoran-class ships are assembled in Luna orbit at the EIN Grimalidi Fleet Yards, at a cost of 216 billion Dura per. EIV 'Haestrum' (IBGC-43) is the 43rd ship of the class.
Having suffered catastrophic damage during engagement with the Maktharian mercenary fleet over Tarrus-3 during the Resource War of 2076, Captain John J. Haestrum ordered all hands to abandon ship, before piloting his stricken vessel into the Maktharian flagship Dra'Zul. The resulting impact destroyed both vessels, allowing the INF banner fleets to regain the upper hand, and ensuring the survival of INF ground troops and seqari colonists planetside.

When I first saw these, I was disappointed. I thought "Boy these are lame ship designs". Then, on second inspection, I realized that they could still be cool ships, regardless of how they looked.

Hehe, thanks
This one is long in need of a graphical overall to make it look like the others.

At first I thought these were big ass ships, but then I figured out they still where big ass ships. Space ships.

Thanks
I'm thinking about doing some other starship designs soon, so we'll see what happens .

maybe you should try one similar to the daedalus and the Prometheus ships from stargate?
just an idear.

Reminds me of the Tiberian Sun Kodiak. I'll have to see whether I have other human military spacecraft on this scale. Escean and Rothan ships respectively follow a rough similarity across the board, while alien ships, which I haven't created yet, are more different.

Battlecruisers was built to be fast and agile, not durable. I think dreadnought fits better.

The term for those ships used by the British navy during the 20ies was light battleship.

Yeah, you could make up your own classifications, or use them differently.
