Dang, nice full figure, is that ritual scarring she's got going on or just battle marks?Β Β
Very cute style/character.

woah thank you!! and yeah she's able to maintain a good figure x)
And I'd imagine it's a bit of both, but mostly battle marks probably, but she sees them as something she's very proud of! all scars tell a tale after all

I never practise stuff because I just want to dive straight into drawing XD aaaah
body types though
oh my god dasdgahsfdfdas
I really need to do that too

hahah basically same here, I used to never practice and just drew whatever I wanted to draw usually, I just recently started experimenting with different face/body shapes and all that
OH!! hair textures and hairstyles as well is something I need to practice on more ;;
But by the way, your male torsos(+ neck and arms) always look so good! o':

ikr XD I just draw a thing and boom, it's just that but I kind of want to get out of my comfort zone
I still struggle with poofy hair but it's cool to draw XD
I should do more art trades because at least I force myself to actually finish things r.i.p
aaaah thank you! I try XD I draw guys too much, help (maybe it's because I have too many dude ocs)
I love your cartoony style and color choice

aa same hahaha, I mean, it's real good to challenge yourself as an artist and explore areas outside of one's comfort zone!
And drawing realistically has never been my style really hahhh, tho I envy those who draw a bit more realistic. But recently I've tried improving my anatomy but it's hard sometimes to find a middle ground between realistic and cartoony anatomy ;3;
buuuut eeh such is life as an artist x)

VampMaiden In reply to Mockeri [2018-03-24 23:39:09 +0000 UTC]
I like to draw cartoonish stuff but with ok anatomy??? if that makes sense XD
I'm not saying that chibies, tim burton style etc etc aren't cool but I get this little thing inside my head like 'nOOOO that's not how anatomy is!' and I never try other different styles XD and me, oh smart me, wants to try drawing in Tim Burton's style
not a good idea dsahfgsdahfgasdhg
Realism is cool though-Β I find it a bit boring but those who can make it look great are very talented
I just prefer cartoons in general because I find them much more interesting to develop your own style and personality aaah
I guess my style is a mix of anime anatomy, cartoon and ...whatever my style is??
But I can never draw anime xD the eyes

Mockeri In reply to VampMaiden [2018-03-24 23:59:50 +0000 UTC]
I mean I can find simple cartoony styles (like adventure time and gravity falls) really appealing but since I'm only drawing and not animating I can afford going into some more detail I guess? I think that goes for tim burton's style as well, I mean it's really nice and it stands out. I think animation nowadays, at least on a lower budget, tend to ease up on the anatomy and realism, or as with tim burton, just being very stylized.
And yeahh!! there's so many different cartoon styles and you don't have to follow the rules of realism, which I love! I think that's why I like cloudy with a chance of meatballs and hotel transylvania as much as I do, it's 3d but manages to be very 2d-ish in their movement? if that makes any sense??Β
but yeah, my style tend to change a lot every now and then, and I take inspiration from a bunch of different sources, as it seems you do to? but I always think that's the best idea, because if you only look for inspiration in one source it tends to become very stale! x)
yeeaaah... anime eyes, especially the big ones like you see in "how to draw manga" books usually freaks me the fuck out ;;

VampMaiden In reply to Mockeri [2018-03-25 00:21:10 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I guess that's a point XDΒ Animating characters with intricate designs/etc takes a long time as well
Oooh Hotel Transylvania is great! I adore Mavis and Dracula dsuafhasdhasdjfj but I wish there were more 2D animations
my style is kind of normal but I like it XD
This is totally going to sound bad- but I never really keep track of my inspirations as a list or something LOL
I just go back to them whenever I see their art and like 'wHOOOAAAA'
but ofc there are some that I can always mention by heart (and because my memory is quite shit lmao)
I kind of find animation movies and so on inspirational too ofc, mostly disney and their anatomy but not as cartoony as theirs
I really enjoy these people's art : Looji, UrsulaDecay, (somewhat) TheZodiacLord ( he has a pretty nice style but what inspire me the most are the colors and posing etc), Skitea, Ravietta, s0alaina, stressedjenny, SpicePrincess (she is a friend of mine sdafdafghasdg), RomyvdHel, Sweet-n-treat, Takurapi, Fukari, Dottea, ScaredPrince and Sleeppy Grim and most of my art friends
I'm forgetting a LOT of people here but I really do see a lot of different stuff XD
Anime is pretty cool but I never really had an anime phase because I got into drawing later on and I just drew cat anthros with huge eyes (not anime-ish looking I guess??)
(sorry for the wall of text XD, I don't really keep up with all the names)

it's cool! it's pretty nice to have this conversation with another artist tbh! c:
And I don't really keep track of my inspirational sources, could be books, movies, series, music, nature stuff, other artists etc etc. tho it's real cool that you have a good chunk of inspirational artists, and that you actually manage to keep track of them somewhat!
when I was younger I used to trace and copy a lot of images for training tho, but somewhere along the line you just stop doing that, I guess? I stopped using references over-all, because it felt like I was cheating, and some people shame artists who use references as well, and it's just recently I started using them again. I ofc mean irl pictures of people or things or some images for posing or other ideas, I don't trace no-more but it's 'aight to do it in the beginning and when improving as long as you don't post that stuff, or at least not without credit or permission, you know? everyone evolves differently as artists, and we all have different strengths and weaknesses, and as long as we're not doing anything illegal or hurting anyone else I think we should let each other use the tools we need to improve.
I also don't agree with the idea that you can steal a style... no-one can draw exactly like you, unless they're tracing all of your images ofc lol
tho I've seen some artist online whine when they see a less popular artists use the same sketching, lining, coloring or shading style as them.. or doing the same/similar type of hands/eyes/ears etc, and say that they "stole their art" lmfao like what?? same thing when people use a certain cartoon or anime style

VampMaiden In reply to Mockeri [2018-03-25 01:35:15 +0000 UTC]
aaaah I think so too
Just some of the people that I stalk look through their stuff more often
same tbh
I didn't do it all the time but I traced some pictures and never told anyone that they were actually traced XD
I used to color them and then use glittle glue on them to make them look cool
fun times?? XD
I see people defending that idea all the time
it's pretty much bullshit
ofc it's more valuable if you don't use references or use little to no references
but you are still training and developing your style
references are a helpful thing
and when you feel more comfortable, you can start to kind of draw without them more and more! so it's great
I used to draw animals all the time hahaha
idk what really is my strongsuit anymore
I guess it's just dudes?? LOL
I used to get that thing all the time and I actually saw some people trying to copy other's styles because they either wanted to or they looked at their art so much that they started to use the same techniques
I don't think I've done that before??? if I have, idr XD buuuuut
I tried to draw like Looji more, not to copy her whole style ofc but I really like the way she draws humans so I was kind of starting there XD
but, y'know
there's always that thing 'lol, anime is all the same and shit'
for the most part, the styles look a lot alike
but not ALL of them
I never really paid much attention to anime art styles when I was watching Mermaid Melody or those other animes that were on tv when I was younger
but there are different anime styles.
Ofc some of them end up looking really alike but stuff like OHSHC, Persona and Hetalia have very unique styles and they are easily recognizable, even if they are meant to be anime
The thing with this is that most people probably only know about old style anime and those looked similar in style to most of them
with the excessively pointy chin and and big eyes etc

Mockeri In reply to VampMaiden [2018-03-25 21:30:24 +0000 UTC]
pff yeah and like "yaoi hand syndrome" is also a thing, and if you used to watch sailor moon or smth you can really see the small/skinny torsos and long and skinny ass legs/arms lmfao
also yeah, chins, eyes and faces in older anime usually look very uhh... distinct?Β
but anyway, it's hard to try and create your own style, and not take inspiration from somewhere else at all. like, everything has already been done someone by now it seems, so it's very hard to be 100% original, so I think we need to give up on that originality purity demand and stop accusing everyone of stealing just because something they created reminded us of something else we've seen lol

VampMaiden In reply to Mockeri [2018-03-25 22:37:30 +0000 UTC]
I have the opposite lmao
tiny ass hand syndrome
My Literature teacher always says this 'We are not original or the only ones in this situation in the world. We make think that we are, but there are always a couple of people who are like you or think the same way as you'
and I was pretty much like 'holy shit wtf, he's right'
It really opened my eyes XD
You can't make it 100% original but taking a few things from here and there and making it into your own thing can still develop something pretty cool, be it super original or not dhasfdghasdhds I just like to have fun
but I never share much about my ideas with others because I end up not liking them most of the time because I keep replaying them inside my head until I'm dead XD
but when someone wants to know or ask about my ocs I just go on this ramble about everything LOL
but I get kind of afraid that they aren't original enough or that they look like some other character

saw someone online say "it might have been done before, but it's never been done by you" or something, and I really agree with that sentiment
but yeah, I usually keep my ideas to myself as well but if someone asks me about my OCs or ideas I just fucking go off lmao
