It had been strangely easy for Nik to bridle the tokotas being led behind Kvothe. The bloodmark had managed to use his charms to immediately subdue the bachelors. He'd approached them submissively, politely, and made them feel comfortable as his handler slipped the leads over their heads. Although Kvothe was younger than both of their charges, he was managing to convince them to follow obediently. It was already clear that the young stud had an impressive streak of leadership within him.

Now the bloodmark was diligently searching for the final tagged tokota. Getting a bit bored, Nik looked back at the docile tokotas behind them and decided to try and make conversation. He swiveled around in the saddle and settled himself backward, drawing little more than a mildly surprised glance from his mount. It wasn't unusual for the man to ride incorrectly, and his tokotas were used to compensating for his bad form. Nik was grinning down at their charges. He smiled amicably and said, "So, do you boys get a lot of nosy humans coming in and wrangling you?" He shook his head. "Rude, that's what it is." The tokotas glanced at each other skeptically, as if they didn't know what to make of the talkative handler. (208 words)
