Description
So ironically I didn't start out to draw Chenelle but I did start out to practice her individual features. But then it became a face, and I wanted to try some shading and expression too. When I was finished I have to admit all of the pieces sure do look like Chenelle. Who to my knowledge never had a 'pixie cut'. But I did ask her if she ever had a pixie cut or short hair.

"Changed hair is an outward reflection of inner change." she says with a cute sly grin. Um, you didn't really answer my question though equally your answer chills me as I know how true it is. She then laughingly tells me her hair has always been long. After that she gives me a little pixie kiss and flies off to do whatever pixies do. I hope she isn't going to get her hair cut...

So I love this piece. I feel like it is the 'come together' of things for me. I believe I have a much better sense of what my style is (or what I really want it to be). Though it doesn't show well in the picture this was done on some slightly sheen white cardboard insert as a part of some packaging. It looked like it would be an interesting surface to draw on and I am so glad I tried that experiment instead of just tossing it in the trash! I love that slick sort of glossy look. And it definitely makes the coloring vibrant. There was a little of everything for the media used. I am still enchanted by 'minimal' color as a style choice. The black here is plain old sharpie marker. The grey is a Tombow brush pen and the lips are a COPIC. I am so happy with how the expression, shading, and gloss of the lips turned out. Now if only I could do work like this consistiently...

I also decided I will make this my avatar/icon not because it looks like me in any way shape or form but rather because I have been thinking of changing out the duck for some time. And I am still very proud of that duck...

[cue spy movie music] So now when you see this, think of Model 88: Spy Girl. Who is not me in any way shape or form. But it is a good tale just the same.
