Kingdom Hearts? Intentionally tried to make it look like a screen shot from a cut scene xD----------------
KH - Shading Sunset V2 Edit:
After receiving a growing number of complaints on the blurryness of the picture, I did a new render without the blur. I hope you like it! The old image with the blur can be viewed here: [link]
In addition to that, I've also tweaked the colors alot, so now its rather a pink gradient of the sun instead of a "in-ur-face orange"
There is still a lot more which needs to be fixed (see list below), and I will take them into account till my next render of Sora

Quest
I've decided to continue on my conquest to finish my Sora model, _AND_ find the secret and technique behind Square Enix's shading method.
I want to try to get as close as possible to archive the same look, through a lot of study of references and testing. It might take a while, but I'm determined to reach that level ^^
Any comments, tips and critics are welcome! Please tell me ANYTHING that can be improved, I need the feedback if I'm going to progress and learn!

I liked the colour of the eyes in the older picture. The ones in this picture seem a little greyer than blue.

But I honestly prefer this kind of tone colors, less saturated and increased contrast, so it appears more dreamy alike rather than saturated cartoony alike. But dont worry, Im aware his eye colors are more deep blue

First of all I want to say that wow... oh my freaking god this is an amazingly gorgeous render. I am literally drooling at my desk.
Now since you asked for ways to improve it my only suggestion is on the chain on his neck. If memory serves me it is metal correct? Currently it looks a little plastic. Perhaps some metallic reflections and shading would help it out.
Other then that you have an amazing portfolio piece here that could easily get your foot in the door at many places I would think. Great work and keep it up. Your modeling really is inspiring.

I hope to improve myself more and learn as I progress. Right now I already have a foot in the industry, working as a CG 3D artist. Im quite new, but its a great opportunity to learn from the pros.

this brings it out more now than I realize, but I found a major difference between you and Wen-JR. I find that your faces are SO much better than his. I can't quite place why, but it's the only thing I don't like about the way he does things. none of his faces seem accurate, but this face seems like the same face used in the games, minus a few things that I'm sure you'll fix soon.
By the way, you are my role model.

Not only is his skill admirable in my eyes, but his dedication and discipline to make so much great frequently is also worship worthy xD
What is different between him and me is just the opportunity of style I think. He knows a lot more than me, and thus can have a style with a more realistic approach and details. Since I dont know so much, I can only do whats easier to make, which is.. hmm a more cartoony look.

i think if you really want to nail it you need to take a look at the cg screenshots themselves very closely
i'd work on the hair a bit... they use thinner and more frequent chunks and i think there must be some level of transparency in them (judging by the screenshots)
one other thing i think there should be smaller irises and...more pupil?

Oh belive me, Ive went through a lot of research and studied the filmsequences. I wouldnt dare to think of how it would turn out if I did not. After all, that is what Im trying to copy
I need to work out on the hair indeed, Right now, it seems like it doesnt give out any highlights as well. The transparent look, is rather light scattering beneath the surface of the hair chunks. I need to play around with that some more to make it look its thinner. Thats all

you know what? i think they use multiple renders of sora for different images...
i was looking at the inside booklet cover and i dont think its the same model..though i guess it would make sense as the screenshot you have is an extreme closeup (probably better anyway)...
i was looking at this one and his face seems somewhat different
anyway, you are doing a good job... i also think, with the hair, just keep going at it and comparing with different angles/environments

I on this Sora render... I think I worked with 3-4 render images and composited it to what you see now.
Im going to try to work his face a bit closer to how he is in this image. Though I feel that my model looks like sora, but it doesnt look like the same one in the image..
