Description Kingdom Hearts? Intentionally tried to make it look like a screen shot from a cut scene xD

----------------
KH - Shading Sunset V2 Edit:

After receiving a growing number of complaints on the blurryness of the picture, I did a new render without the blur. I hope you like it! The old image with the blur can be viewed here: [link]
In addition to that, I've also tweaked the colors alot, so now its rather a pink gradient of the sun instead of a "in-ur-face orange"
There is still a lot more which needs to be fixed (see list below), and I will take them into account till my next render of Sora Thank you for the comments and favs so far! ^^ KH rules!

----------------
Quest

I've decided to continue on my conquest to finish my Sora model, _AND_ find the secret and technique behind Square Enix's shading method.

I want to try to get as close as possible to archive the same look, through a lot of study of references and testing. It might take a while, but I'm determined to reach that level ^^

Any comments, tips and critics are welcome! Please tell me ANYTHING that can be improved, I need the feedback if I'm going to progress and learn!

-mog

----------------
These are the comments I've received and is going to update in my next Sora render, so thanks a lot for the feedback!!

- More natural hair in the neck area
- More lively eyes - by ~Aurrora
- Less female alike face
- Another background which is more KH'ish.
- Lips less "sticky out" - by *heartless-nobody
- More SSS shading - by *soulshine
- Highlights in the hair - by myself
- Less glossy skin - by myself

hehe The model was never finished! I've redone the entire face, to make it match more, but its still not quite alike enough. I need to revamp it once more I think

i think it looks quite cool here it captures the feel of kh at least ^____^ and you d be a rubbish artist if you didnt feel you could improve some more XD no artist ever likes their work or is completely happy with it.

it s a lot better than my character modelling XD

Heh I think it might be impossible to recreate the same model I will just go with something I think look nice :3

Im glad I managed to get the right feeling at least,
I havent seen you have done any modeling lately >.<; You havent stopped, I hope?

i have pretty much >.> i do games design as a job now got a job as a freelance games designer so i dont really have to model anymore >.> so i havent really done anything. i might in the future, but i d need a modelling program that works on a mac.

Ah... :c thats not good. We started out on the same level together didnt we? Im sure you could be just as good 3D artist, or even better with effort ^^

What part of game designing do you do? And on which game do you work on? ^^

SoraJhannoa In reply to mogcaiz [2008-07-14 10:39:27 +0000 UTC]

that s true... just got fed up with how confining it was at uni and all that its kinda put me off somewhat but i think i will try some modelling agian in the future ^___^ when i m not as busy as i am atm >.>

i cant say waht game i m working on sorry signed an nda so i d be shot but can say its a childrens adventure game

i do random games design. if they need me to design a mechanic or mini game i go off and do it. i do all the games design atm for a game well i get quite a lot of help on it but most of it is my work its cool and scary... being responsible for a game is very intimidating :s meep...

what have you been up to recently? not heard much from you for a while

i promise i will try modelling again though i will have to find mac version of maya to get hold of ^____^

No way!!! The colours are amazing! The modelling is amazing! You're a superb modeler! ^_^ Beside the fact that the image is a bit blury (it was meant to be that way?) It is really superb!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mogcaiz In reply to Kyttee [2008-07-05 12:08:57 +0000 UTC]

Thank you I try~
The image is blurry intentionally yes First there is the depth/focus blur Secondly a horizontal motion blur to make the picture look like its taken from a cutscene.

SOULSSHINE In reply to ??? [2008-07-05 05:58:27 +0000 UTC]

Well of course not ......

xD

they dont use "mental ray" .. renderer to do their movies , but an ambiased global ilum render engine solution.. ...

Beside in kingdom hearts ... they use "almost" subsurface scaaaatering for everythiiinnnggggg ...
They are crazy ...
but then again they are japanese ..
One cant blame them ...

xD

Try with the new Maxwell render -» 1.7 , and its subsurfaçe scatering ... [link] ... or fryrender that is alot better for subsurface & global unbiased ilum ...

Maybe that way you could get "more close" ...

heheheeheheh

have fun mogs ...
Ya "fanboy" you ....

xD

lovely work dude!

They probably dont use 3Dsmax either. But I got to stick with the available tools I have. You sure they use SSS on everything? It looks like it, because everything is so soft ^^ Im going to give it a try, and perhaps with GI render someday. Im also afraid Maxwell is out of question xD Im confident I can archive great renders with MR, ^^

SOULSSHINE In reply to mogcaiz [2008-07-05 15:09:48 +0000 UTC]

Ho yes no doubt my friend .. MRay is the standart to movie industry business...
Also the oldest and more stable engine .... you can even learn programing do your own shaders ...
There are even sotwares to do shaders for it ...
Its just a lil sad its a lil slow comparing with final render ( that is the fastest ) and others ...

btw....

Have you seen the Subscatering Material - not the fast sss, but the comon sss of mental ray .... "ITS CRAZY" .... how many controls and slots that thing has hahha... to work it out just with a proper manual near ...
Its for sure the most complicated resourcefull sss material to tween , expecialy in the 3ds max ...
Even in maya the same material is more limited .... xD

But most of trailers use "maya" ... because maya have a special lightning tipe managemnt ...
Maya lights Gives a more contrasted , burned dark mood to renders ...

For example xsi , uses a more soft algoritm in lights sistem ....
Natural lightnings looks more smooth ... super for realism

And 3ds max lightning sistem , gives a more flat , apearence .. good for animation things ...
Thats why ... game indutries prefer maya to do renders ...

And i'm talking the diferençes even just with mental ray of all maya 3ds , and xsi ...
There are alot diferents in it ...

As far as i know mental ray for max is still the most developed ...
You can see that in the materials sistem ...

----

Anyway i will give you a huge Bonus if you like that much mental ray ....

A free realtime 50 times more fast preview mental ray , ray tracing realtime based render engine -Β» [link]

Check it out .... its in beta test .... for now , free for everyone and support most of mental ray proprieties ...
haaaa...... Atonishing pieçe of software for interactive material tweeking / debuguing ...
Makes your live alot more easy ...

Again vray will got one of those oficialy in the end of the year like ...

Mental ray already got it - and its free... weay !
Lets go party !
^^

Good luck my friend ....

Hope you get into the industry soon enouph ...
Yo big in talent !

HAveeee funnnnnnnn Yoooooo

Riku-Rocks In reply to ??? [2008-07-05 00:40:50 +0000 UTC]

Well done. The background even looks like somethign out of the games. Usually, whenever I see 3D character models, the backgrounds are mostly ignored, so that jumps out to me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mogcaiz In reply to Riku-Rocks [2008-07-05 12:41:06 +0000 UTC]

It depends on what you want to show. If its a 3d model, it isnt necessary to spend time on a background you know
I wanted to test and see if I could make something which looked like KH, so I did it with a background ^^
The funny thing is that its just a crappy photo of a sky I found in one of my folders But its blurred so it doesnt matter!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Riku-Rocks In reply to mogcaiz [2008-07-06 05:42:51 +0000 UTC]

Still, it brings the piece together and fits the scene well. It also adds to the character looking like an actual being as opposed to just a digital model.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mogcaiz In reply to Riku-Rocks [2008-07-06 13:11:36 +0000 UTC]

True ^^ A lot of postwork is necessary to make it look like it belongs to a scenery or a background. The raw rendered 3D image from 3D did not look like it could be suited with a background at all in the start

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Riku-Rocks In reply to mogcaiz [2008-07-07 02:51:54 +0000 UTC]

Hmm...well considering how much effort goes into making 2D characters fit a separately made background, I bet the 3D ones are quite difficult sometimes. Well good job with this one. It certainly looks like it fits.
