Description
Im in trouble with Roxas =/I started on roxas sometime during January, everything went really great modelingwise.
My plan was to make a very low poly base character mesh for easier animating later. To make it still look good, I would focus more on the shader than I usually do, by using Diffuse, Bump, Specular AND Displacement. The displacement shading would make up for the low poly mesh so in the final render it would still look highpoly with lots of nice details.
Most parts turned out really great, such as the shoe, the inner jacket and so on. However another part did not turn good at all, such as the pockets you see on his outer jacket.
This really bugs me and even Im having texture maps around 3000x3000, the geometry of the jacket still appears jagged :s Im not sure what cause it, otherwise I could have worked it out. Something tells me that it displacement render in Mental Ray does not appreciate hard curves.
Anyways, the bottom line of this project is that Im going to stamp this project as -fail- until something good happens to it

btw XD I got 3ds max again and I've finally cleared up enough time to take a serious go at it. I'll start learning it either today or tomorrow. (I might bug u from time to time if I run into any problems )

Thats great! I hope you do well with it this time! Dont get demotivated if its getting rough, otherwise you will be ending up with a failed WIP like this
You can ask me anytime if you need help!

lol i wouldn't feel too bad about losing motivation on a project like this mog. I cant say much for 3d graphics, but I can say a lot for characters. You should focus on making your own characters rather than sticking to this fan work. We all like it, but you have more potential than that. Projects like these tend to get boring faster.

Yeah it does. But by copying, I feel more intrigued to find out what and how the artist Im copying have done.
This project just became fail because I spent lots of time into something which in theory would turn out good, but did not, because of the strange behavior of the displacement maps :c Anyways, I have A LOT of characters I want to do fanart of, so no original character yet Unless I feel an urge to do so

Lol I guess I'll just have to carry the weight for both of us then. ^_^ don't forget I'm gonna become one of the best game designers in the industry

I think you need to redo it from lowpoly, it has way too many round edges and he looks really flat.
Great job on the textures though.

Nice start! Fix the face and the kacket a bit and you'll turn out to be great!

it's a great start! I would say keep going with it. i can see how you think some of the textures are off, making the maps up to 3000 won't necessarily mean it's going to look better. Something could have happened when you were cutting the UVs. other then some textures not working, the modeling is getting there. i know it's a work in progress so it's not done, but it's getting there. if you continue, i would love to see an update! ~Ty

hm .. sad you want to stop making him, the things that are finished are locking realy great (shoes and jacket are just ... *speechless*), but I can understand that you get kinda p*ssed when the things don't turn out how they should do (and you even don't know why). but it's still sad :/
