You should watch the older one. Though it's longer, it's a lot better.

I watched the first 3 episodes of the older one and I'm hooked, not even going to bother with the new one yet

I recommend watching the old series. The old series has better music and is, I feel, more intelligent. The new series seems like they dumbed it down a bit... The newer version is faster paced, which is nice, but the old series just has a certain kind of magic to it; a powerful feeling of adventure and friendship.
