Personally, I never really "got" the whole Edge/Rydia vibe everyone else does, but hey, I've shipped Link/Tatl and Naruto/Ino before, so who am I to judge?
About the pic itself, it looks like Rydia has an afro O_O.

*shrugs* well, you can't deny edge loves rydia, so i think it mostly comes from that. rydia's feelings are more debatable.
haha, and she doesn't have an afro. XD that's sort of how her hair looks in the sprites of the ds version.

I kinda can deny it, since the most evidence I can remember (Being stuck on the mind-numbingly tedious final dungeon in my first, relatively Augment-free save file and not having Edge in my party yet in my second, Augment-conscious save file) is Edge complimenting Rydia's appearance when the party first ran into him (And he gave a similar comment to Rosa) and walking up to Rydia and seemingly hitting on her before getting rejected while attaching a drill to the Falcon. And even that last one's kinda ambiguous, he could've been offering to sell her some beach-front property for all we know. If the ending makes it clear he's not just chasing her for her looks, than please don't spoil it for me, but as far as I can see there's nothing to suggest his interest is any further than skin-deep, and I doubt Rydia is Tsundere towards him.
But once again, I've shipped more than my fair share of crack before, so whatever.
And I don't recall the hair immediately around her head looking so... Fluffy. It doesn't get wavey until that stuck-out pointy part that makes it look like she applied hair-gel before correcting her bed-head.

honestly, the end of the game does clarify it more (as well as edge's thoughts in the final dungeon). i also take the after years into account, which, in my opinion, vaguely implies edge's feelings as well.
and rydia's hair was based on some official art of her in the FFIV DS strategy guide. her hair was wavy all over in it.

Well I've never played The After Years and, as far as my own view of FFIV is concerned, it makes no difference.
So which is it based on, her in-game model or official art?

yes, but you don't have a full view of FFIV, anyway, since you've never beaten the game.
and the official art was most likely based off the sprites or vice versa. it looks similar to them, but the hair is a bit frizzier. i can send you a scan of it, if you want. if the character doesn't have one set design (like the FFIV characters), i usually take elements from the different ones and combine them.

I'm at the last dungeon in my first file, I doubt any scenes between then and the ending will terribly affect my opinion of a game I already love.
