Description
First Heart BreakIt was already dark outside and I was unusually drowsy. The sky was surprisingly smoky as if there was a factory somewhere down the empty country road. Down the driveway I could see an about 5 foot tall white figure making it’s was up to the patio. Was that a Polar bear, a baby polar bear? Was Ontario even high enough up north to spot a polar bear?
As the figure made its way close to the door, I could finally pick up who it was. Dakota Holly. My girlfriend, one of the happiest girls I knew. She was slouching and had a glum, down look on her face.
Dakota stepped onto the front patio and I ran for the door to let her in, “Welcome home Honey!” I sang as she stepped through the door. That glum look still planted on her face.
Dakota made her ways to the living room and sat down on the laZboy recliner, “I thought we should talk.”
“Oh?” I asked, “What about?”
Dakota sighed and crossed her right leg over the left, crossed her arms and then slouched back onto the chair. Her hair was much paler than its usual dark brown colour. Her lips were pursed up in a way that looked like she was biting them on the inside. Something she tended to do whenever she was reluctant to say something. “About us. And me.”
She was serious.
I slowly trudged over to the couch beside where Dakota was seated, “Is something wrong?”
“It’s not you it’s me.”
“Oh here it goes.” I said, hinting my anxiety.
“No literally. You’re perfect. I just… want something else.” Dakota trailed off and turned her attention from me to the window.
Dakota and I had been together 3 years, since the 7th grade. I actually thought I may as well have been head over heels for the girl. Hell I could have seen myself proposing in a year. And now here she was, stating she wanted something “else” What the hell does she mean “else?”
“Can we talk about it?” I asked finally able to break out of my silent trance.
Dakota shook her head and smiled. “I’m satisfied with my decision and my decision is final.” And with that, she stood up, buttoned her jacket, tied her boots and left.
