the sun threw off dazzling rays of reds and golds as it sat low on the horizon, waves lapped agents the sides of the cruise ship as it chugged along to its next destination.
Many of the people who inhabited the ship wore fantastic costumes that bore the resemblance to Pokemon, or festival clothes made with dazzling colors. They chattered and played games, many of them showed off their Pokemon, and some traded items and Pokemon with each other.
Rose leaned on the railing of the ship, looking down at the water rushing by below. Her Snubbull, Kimmie, stood by her side, intensely looking down at the water, trying to figure out what her
Trainer was looking at.
A woman dressed as a Gardivor came over to Rose with an ice cream cone in each hand.
"Hey Rose! What are you looking at?" She chirped.
"Hey belle, I'm Just looking at the water. I can't wait to go snorkeling when we arrive in Johto." Kimmi huffed when she heard her trainer wanted to go into the water. She knew she would want her to go too even though the Snubbull hated baths and water. "Do you want to come with me when I get there?"
Belle handed Rose one of the cones. "No thanks, I'd rather sunbathe on the beach... But do you know who would love to go snorkeling with you?"
"Who?"
Belle retrieved a pokeball from the folds of her costume and clicked the button. Red energy sprang forth and turned into a Chinchou that stood between them. Belle bent down and scooped him up and held him out to Belle "Chi-chi would!"
Rose laughed "I can't just take your Pokemon."
"We can trade for the cruse, that way Chi-chi can go snorkeling with you, and Kimmie can sunbathe with me. Everyone wins!"
"Well...Alright." She opened and dug through her bag and pulled out a small blue backpack. "Here is her backpack, her pokeball is in this little side pocket here, and in here is her brush, dresses, and a sweater just in case she gets cold. She needs brushed once a day, fed three times a day, and she's allowed to have snacks twice a day. She will only eat spicy food. Trust me, don't even try to give her sweets, she will spit it out at you. She gets a bath every other day, and when you do give her one make sure you clean and dry between her skin flaps or she will start smelling like old cheese. Did you get all that,"
"Uuhhh.... Yes."
"Good. What should I know about Chi-chi?"
"Uhh... He likes to splash around in water puddles... And he sometimes gets into the snacks and pigs out."
Rose puffed out a small laugh at how little Belle really knew about raising Pokemon. "Alright, I'll keep that in mind." She crouched down "alright Kimmie, behave alright? And have fun with Belle."
Kimmie smiled and nodded
"You be good too chi-chi. Make sure Rose doesn't drown!" Belle said to her Chinchou and handed him to Rose and practically dropped him into her hands and immediately walked off with Kimmie in tow.
Rose sighed, half amused, and half worried about how well her friend and her prize winning Pokemon will get along together.
The sun dipped below the horizon, the last of the razes dulled behind the curvature of the planet. There was a low rumble off in the distance and some dark clouds in the east. Rose decided it was time to collect her Ralts, Butch, and her Banette, Suzy that where on the deck playing with other Pokemon and bring them inside.
It was late in the night and Rose was in the dining hall feeding her Pokemon when the patter of rain started hitting the ship and thunder rolled into a deep rumble. Butch was afraid of thunder, so Rose put him on her lap as they ate.
Suzy finished early and began playing with Rose's cape, twirling and wrapping it around herself.
There was a sudden deafening silence and blackness consumed the room. The power was out. The cries of Pokemon erupted along side their trainers. Butch let out his own cry and sprang from Roses lap. She gave chase to the little Pokemon, only being lead by the flashing lights of the attacks of fire and electronic Pokemon and glimpses of green with white trailing behind it.
She followed him through a door and was pelted by heavy rain. The boat was smacked with a large wave and Lightning illuminated The scene before her. Her little Ralts was on his belly, rapidly sliding to the edge of the ship. She jumped and dived to save him, sliding on the slick floor and grabbing him. Clinging onto him, she tried to stand on the rocking ship only to have it smacked by another wave and knock her off her feet.
She tried to grab things that she slid past that where bolted down with her free hand, but whenever she did managed to grab something it was to slippery to grip and she continued her descent to the edge of the ship.
Her cloak tightened around her neck, threatening to strangle her. She grabbed the gems that jabbed and dug into her throat and looked up to see glowing red eyes. Suzy had grabbed onto her cloak with one hand, and wrapped the other around a glad pole. She was desperately trying to pull up her 170 pound trainer with all her might. She tugged and pulled only to have her grip falter. She was yanked down into the depths.
The next thing Rose knew she was submerged in water that pressed into her and threatened to squeeze the air out of her lungs. She kicked and thrashed, her heavy clothing dragging her down into the black freezing depths.
Through some miracle she managed to break the surface and get a breath of air. She heard the desperate screams of her Pokemon over the howling wind as they broke the surface in panic. Instinct took over and Rose went into auto pilot, pulling her two pokeballs out of her pockets and pressing them both. The red light was blinding agents the darkness as her Pokemon where pulled into safety. She shoved her pokeballs back into her pockets just as a wave came crashing down on top of her. It felt like a load of bricks had smashed into her, forcing her down into the water once more. She spun in the blackness of the water with no indexation of which way was towards the surface and which was towards the void of below. She searched desperately for any sign of the moon, the ship, anything that would lead her to the fresh air her lungs where beginning to burn for.
Her prayers where answered when she saw a flashing light. She clawed her way through the water in a desperate attempt to reach it.
Rabidly it approached and as she was about to touch the light something slammed into her chest, forcing the air out as water rushed past her.
Just as she was about to lose consciousness her head was forced into the cold air. She took life saving gulps of air before she even thought to look down to see what was holding her up.
The face of a concerned chincho looked back at her from just below the waters surface.
She looked around for the ship, but could barely see anything at all past the unrelenting onslaught of rain.
She held Chi-chi to her chest as he began to swim and pull her along through the storm.
His antenna would flash and it didn't take long for Rose to figure out that he was indicating a large wave was coming and he was going under water momentarily to avoid getting smashed by it.
After what had felt like an eternity the rain had stopped and the sea calmed.
As the raze of the sun greeted them once more over the horizon it revealed a hairline coast way off into the distance. Rose pointed it out and Chi-chi headed towards it.
Hours later Rose doubted what she was seeing was true because the sun was high in the sky now, but it didn't seem as though the land mass was getting any closer.
Chi-chi swam all day and long into the night, dragging Rose along all the while. The moon was high in the sky when they finally reached a beach.
The beach had soft sand, but it was littered with debris and broken items. This didn't matter to the duo, they where just so happy to be on any land at all. Rose picked up Chi-chi as she crawled sopping wet onto the beach. She found a clear spot and flopped over onto her side on it with the Pokemon by her side.
"Chi-chi... Thank you. Thank you so much. You deserve a rest." She pulled out her friends pokeball and retuned Chi-chi to it as she rested on the beach for the night.
