After Molly showed Sam their was magic in the world, he was fascinated with it. He started tearing through her spell books, unable to cast spells but he was able to use alchemy and rituals. One ritual made another living being your unwavering slave. This is where reality bisected.

Reality A) Sam was horrified at the prospect and attempted to tear the page out. Molly appeared and told him her books were indestructible, but she respected his abhoration of that spell, and promised she warped the words to make it unworkable to any who read it. They would continue living together and eventually end up on TG Island

Reality B) Sam attemps the spell, but finds it won't work. Suspecting foul play, he locates a magic erasing powder that returns the book to normal. Enthralling Molly, he begins a subtle take over of the criminal element in his city, state and eventually country. He is now the magical Don of his world and is more than happy to lend Max a hand.
