Since when in the hell did the word derp or herpaderp become strictly associated with mentally disabled people? I say it all the time when I either have a moment when I completely space out or does something completely stupid. Some bronies need to get their facts straight, I'll tell you h'what.

well, according to what i know, derp was originally created to be used as a term to harass Mentaily Disabled ppl, but has evolved into what you mentioned.

And then it was Carlos Mencia that did that whole "DI-DI-DI" thing that was supposed to imply a disability. But I wouldn't be too surprised either way because a lot of words have really evolved over time

Thank you for posting this. I have to say I squee'd when I saw Derpy and heard her referred to by her fanon name. At least she didn't get the name change that Lyra did. Heart Strings is her new "name" now, I think.
When I saw her, mentally disabled or retarded never entered my mind. I now have a personality baseline that I can use in my fiction. To me she's well-meaning, friendly, and adorably clumsy. Oh and her butt's made of iron apparently.
Still, I'm grateful that a fanon character is now canon, and I think the idea that her name is an excuse to insult the mentally challenged, while I can see and understand that view, is not correct. I won't go so far as to say those who oppose the name Derpy are wrong, I just feel that they are putting too much energy into what has been, in my opinion, a cute character.
Not sure if it qualifies anymore, but I have Dyslexia.

well, originally hasbro planed on making derpy into ditzy doo, however when the fans found out they asked to keep the fannon name. Hasbro decided to go with the fans and provide great fan service. Lyra might still remain lyra if hasbro takes the same path there

To the opponents i say they are the type of people who cause us to not be able to have good cartoons very often. I was dead serious when i said i was the best cartoon sence Megas XLR (BTW Megas is the ONLY show I have ever, and still, like more than FIM. Those two shows are in a class of there own, nothing else even comes close to how much i like Megas and FIM)

What kind of idiots would want to SILENCE Ditzy Doo (I don't care what her name is, I'm calling her that)? Those people are not allowed to be a part of the MLP fandom for making stupid suggestions- no, PETITIONS like that.
I've already signed your petition, and not only is it a breath of fresh air after millions of forced petitions to stop SOPA/PIPA/BULLSHITA, it serves as a reminder that ungrateful bronies exist. And we sane ones had to answer their stupid petition the same way.

I know, I know all about every single one of those bills and laws, because frankly, I'm getting quite sick of the first thing I see when I open my inbox in deviantart/youtube/etc. is millions of journals posting links to pettitions wanting to stop them etc. etc.

I hate it when people claim that Bubbles (not to be called Derpy) is mentally disabled, I think of her just as of an extremely clumsy pony with a sight problem. If there is anyone who is mentally disabled in MLP it's RD

saneness doesn't necessarily mean no metal issues. Aspergers isn't always obvious, and quite a bit of how Twi acts indicates a possibility for her having aspergers.

Well I wouldn't go that far. Twi is just obsessed with books which are the key to the knowledge she seeks and 'Tia, who is a symbol of power Twi seeks (she was dragged to magic when she saw her raising the sun) and was her mentor (partially replacing her parents as she was far away from them).
And she doesn't have any social problem, does she?

ok heres my reasoning based off of several aspergers symptoms that are seen in the show. This type of argument never ends, im just stating my logic right now that has lead me to belive twilight has aspergers.. i'll admit many of these traits can be seen in people without aspergers, but this many of them together to me means something.
1. Twilight is overly obsessive about specific things to the point of causing problems in other areas to focus on a single goal. (best example lesson 0)
2. Twilight at times is completely oblivious to other peoples emotions. (best example look before you sleep)
3. The way Twilight acted around other ponies in the very beginning of the show before she made friends. (Like how she completely ignored Lyra is episode 1)
4. How she always use's perfectionist logic no matter situation. (Feeling Pinkie Keen, or in dragonshy)
5. The way she automatically assumes she can do anything purely based on study. (Like the running of the leafs in fall weather friends)
6. (this one is not necessarily a symptom, this is based off myself and people i've know who have also had aspergers) The way she refused to "show off" in Boast busters.
7. The way she always tried to help in winter wrap up despite the fact that they didnt necessarily need help. Sort of a need to feel like your needed type of thing.
These are just the most obvious ones that i have noticed. If you want me to go into greater detail i could practically write a report over what i've noticed as to Twi having aspergers like symptoms.

1. Couldn't agree more, but I guess that has something to do with her mentor?
2. In look before you sleep she was like, too busy reading the book to see Rarity and Applejack fighting

6. I guess that goes with her being new in Ponyville, she was very careful not to do anything that could upset her new friends, making friends was a breakthrough in her life. And maybe she was afraid of Trixie's amazing powers.
7. I guess that's normal I very often tend to get nervous when people don't want me to do something, like I'm useless.
So all in all, it was like 2-3 points and I guess none of them are as serious as to call them asperengers.

i never said it was a serious case, i was talking slight less sever than my own (witch is not that bad). Aspergers can sometimes be so subtle people only realize they have it on complete accident. I would call twi's somewhere between there and mine.
