Description Walking along at a nature park in the city, I came across this fellow. This is a silver argiope which is apparently a common garden spider. Still, it's body was about the size of the tip of my pinkie finger to the first knuckle. Thats' about at 3/4 inch body. Pretty nice macro I thought.

Not too poisonous. Won't kill a human unless they're allergic or something.

Orb weavers are so beautiful. I think even when they are ugly, they are so ugly they are beautiful. Even the "Barn Spiders" at my in-laws house in NH, dull brown and orange that they were, are hot in some sort of arthropodic way.

I absolutely love spiders, and this shot is so clear! This is a really beautiful spider! Was it really that small? It looks kinda big in the picture

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mongolShawn In reply to SagetHollen [2007-04-17 18:27:13 +0000 UTC]

Well, the size is bumped up by the proximity of the lens but the legs did add to the size. I just said the size of the body. But it's nowhere near the size of the tarantulas in the area.

Thanks. They've always fascinated me as they manage to live in almost every environment. The anarctic seems to be the only one they're missing from, on land at least.

Helps to shoot stuff you're unafraid of. Only two types of spiders in the area can kill someone my size and this is neither the recluse nor a widow so I knew I was ok. No case, on the entire planet, of a taratula killing someone either.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kim-E In reply to mongolShawn [2006-04-06 03:30:06 +0000 UTC]

it's not exactly that i'm afraid that spiders are gonna bite me and then i'll die...it's just the long legs and web is scary to me. one time when i was a kid (before i became afraid of spiders) i was holding a giant walking stick (the insect) and it ended up crawing on my face...and since then spiders with long legs freak me out.
