Maureen was a orphan, parents killed in a car crash when she was still an infant. She was put into the system. At the time a wealthy billionaire playboy "philanthropist" named Ashton was looking for certain orphans that tested positive for X genes. When Maureen tests came back she "disappeared" and is listed as deceased. Ashton put her in a special training program with 12 other X positive orphans that was off site. They emphasized critical thinking and physical training. The program is not set up like a normal school. Up until the age of thirteen they are trained in problem solving, tactics, strategy, martial arts, infiltration, firearm weapon use, gymnastics, acrobatics, parkour, and computers. After thirteen the program changes to work on their X genes, ninja training, seduction and to temper their fears. All but 2 washed out and we're "reintegrated" into society. (They were sold to special agencies.) Maureen got top marks at all areas, but she was disillusioned with the process. It was great learning and knowing but she didn't see the end pay off. On her first and only mission she completed and disappeared.
She returned to Chicago and uses her skills to disappear under a fake name, Renee Riley. Ashton once believed he was made to be a crime fighter but has since been deluded into becoming a mercenary organized crime lord. He started to believe that to reduce the inoccents hurt by criminals he had to make a "better" class of criminal. This created a power struggle between the organized structured criminals and the chaotic crazy type of criminals. Shadow wing has taken her skills to the streets to fight both class of criminal. Because of her life long training she doesn't do well in certain social situations. She doesn't really know how to make "friends" and she isn't comfortable with the attention she gets because of her physically perfect appearance. She is well aware of how to use her womanly form to seduce a target but she doesn't understand the intricacies of normal human social interaction and often says things that seem odd or out of place. Like how many exits there are in the room or who in the room represents the greatest threat and approximately how many seconds it would take to neutralize the person. Recently she has started college at the University of Wisconsin in Madison to better assimilate into "normal" society.
