Description
This is the war of the Console Wars in the universe which Diddy and Tux series takes place. There are three sides: Microsoft Empire, iSony Confederacy, and NinLin Alliance. This is a fresh reupload of the same picture with a brand new analysis of the three sides to the war. I recently learned new things about the three sides of the Operating System Wars and how they would relate to the three sides of the Console Wars.
I always adored Diddy Kong as a kid, and he still remains to this day one of my two all-time favorite characters. Between his adorable pot-belly and swimming talent, I was inspired in 2006 to imagine a half-penguin version of Diddy Kong. Then, I saw the Linux Mascot and really wanted to develop my concept of the monkey-penguin hybrid. Since 2006, Tux has been my other all-time favorite character, as I found Tux to be as much monkey as Diddy Kong is penguin. After all, Tux is about as chaotic and intelligent as any monkey, and is often cutely depicted with a belly button.
If there is anything I noticed comparing Diddy Kong's fanbase with Tux's, they both have a hilarious feud against Microsoft and what it does as a horizontal monopoly. As a result, I ended up combining both competitions of Microsoft being the Console Wars and the Operating Systems together to make three distinct sides of the Console Wars in my fan fiction. So, here it goes:
Microsoft Empire: It is pretty obvious that Xbox and Windows are owned by the same company. Xbox has two rivals, being Nintendo and Sony's Playstation, while Windows has two rivals, being Apple and Linux. I will get to them in a bit. It seems quite interesting that when Microsoft found great retribution on the concept of wireless controllers with the First Xbox console, they decided to make that official with Xbox 360, not knowing that one day, when gaming PC's would become advanced enough to combine Xbox with Windows, or rather, knowing one day that Master Chief Petty Officer John 117 would become the mascot of Microsoft as a whole given his high reputation. Halo is the hallmark of Microsoft. Too bad the developer, 343 Industries, isn't doing too well. Now, because I am combining operating system families with gaming console families, PC game franchises are to be split 3 ways, between all three sides of this war. Anything owned by Microsoft Gaming Studios, whether it is an Xbox exclusive title or if it is a PC game, is to be considered a loyal companion of Microsoft. That is, except for some Rareware characters and PC games that don't do well under Microsoft's license.
The Rareware Civil War: Diddy and Tux's main plot device is this precise civil war of Rareware. Despite Microsoft's current ownership with Rareware, fans acknowledge that Rareware has a strong potent history with Nintendo, so potent that nearly all of the games by Rareware and Nintendo are to be adored as classic. Some characters originally produced by Rareware are still owned by Nintendo, being anything that is considered a Donkey Kong character, since Donkey Kong characters are developed as Mario characters. See this picture for details: www.deviantart.com/art/Animals⦠As a result of this analogy, I decided that Rareware should be the bridge between Nintendo and Microsoft in my fan fiction universe, divided amongst the Loyalists, those loyal to Microsoft's cause, and the Separatists, the purists that prefer the old classics for NES, SNES, and especially N64. Examples of Loyalists on Microsoft's side include Conker the M-rated antihero and the dataDyne Corporation, as I couldn't help but compare the ever awesome Shock Troopers from Perfect Dark to the Spartans and ODST's in Halo. Examples of Separatists include Diddy Kong and King K Rool who Diddy would often invite to a Mario spinoff game because they're friends now in my eyes. Because the Rareware Separatists are on Nintendo's side and are enemies to Microsoft, they don't use Windows and would therefore have to choose between Apple and Linux. EDIT: Another significant part of the Rareware Civil War, the reason why Separatists use Linux and not Apple, is because emulators seem to be the thing that Linux and Microsoft have in common. In other words, Rareware characters would laugh at those classic "Get a Mac" commericals because they always use PC's, especially gaming computers. They also seem to be into Kodi last time I checked, as one of the versions of Kodi includes its own built in emulator suitable for all those classic Nintendo/Rareware titles and can be navigated with Xbox 360 or Xbox One controllers. So, aside from Rareware, open source products, coding, and piracy seems to be the common bridging gap between NinLin and Microsoft. The Maians (Nintendo side) and Skedar (Microsoft side) especially are big time Alienware users it seems like. Maybe that's why it's called Alienware, because that's where it came from.
NinLin Alliance: Given my cross analysis of Rareware's fanbase and Linux's fanbase, I found a conclusion that if there is any friend, ally, or subject of the Super Mario Brothers that would prefer Linux over Apple, it's a Rareware Separatist. For the most part, Nintendo of today is kind of kid-friendly and cartoony, which makes Nintendo worthy of alliance with Apple Inc. However Apple's "user-friendly" direction does not collide with the older 1990's classics as much as the concept of free and open source. I would have to say that a Rareware Separatist would not be the only subject of the Mushroom Kingdom that would prefer Linux over Apple. Majora as in Majora's Mask would also prefer Linux over Apple, given Majora's Mask rivals the charm, nostalgia, and difficulty of the Rareware games also released exclusively for Nintendo 64, especially Donkey Kong 64. Now, as for the PC games in the NinLin Alliance, Sonic the Hedgehog is the Noble Ally of Mario these days, and his corporation, Sega, has a wide spread of developers that specialize in sophisticated strategy games these days, such as Creative Assembly with the Total War franchise for example. I guess Sonic the Hedgehog loves Linux too, because it serves him well in using open source to keep his claim of strategy games in check. However, Diddy Kong, of all Mario characters, is the biggest fan of Linux for the following reasons: 1. Donkey Kong 64 is one of the hardest and most nostalgic games of all time, and it is nowhere remotely what Apple would call or consider "user-friendly," and neither is Perfect Dark, nor Donkey Kong Country 2; 2. Free and open source is highly compatible with nostalgic games by means of emulators; 3. The open source mascots, which Tux is among one of them, all have similar personalities to any of Diddy Kong's closest friends, being cute, cuddly, but nonetheless, chaotic in nature, insomuch that the open source mascots would become incredible friends with Diddy Kong and his closest friends; 4. Tux himself is the cutest and coolest penguin and would often find himself at home at the Donkey Kong islands.
The Anime/Portables Feud: EDIT: Microsoft seems to be on a role with both video game consoles and desktop computer operating systems. However, what Microsoft doesn't have is portable gaming, unless if you count the Microsoft Surface or a laptop computer. But having something in your hand is what Nintendo, Sony, Linux, and Apple all have in common. Nintendo now has the Switch which is both a home console and a mobile one. Sony has the portable Playstation games. Apple has the iPods and iPhones. Linux has Android. Apparently, this would put Tux at odds with Diddy Kong because some Sony products use Android OS. That is not to say, however that Tux has reasons to have discernment with his lime green robot friends. Android may be Linux, but it is also Google, and Google, according to this chart, is smack in the middle as the so-called Gaia faction next to Electronic Arts, which I would get into a bit. That being said, just as Diddy Kong is faced with a civil war, so is Tux, and Tux's civil war may be with Google. What is really interesting is that some of those portable games are classified as strategy games to a point, and are very simple and straight forward, but Microsoft has something completely different: Steam.net's strategy game collections. Perhaps that's the reason why the dataDynes worked with Aperture Sciences to capture the monguins! In addition to portable gaming devices from smartphones to tablets to actual handheld gaming consoles, Nintendo and Sony both have something else in common Microsoft does not have: Japanese influence! That's right! I figured Dr. Robotnik might be working for Sony and Apple just as Sonic the Hedgehog works for Nintendo and Linux. In addition, The World of the Avatar would be an interest between both Nintendo and Sony, Nintendo with its collection of Pokemon and Sony with The Fifth Element. Keep in mind Nickelodeon and Dreamworks are friends and the Penguins of Madagascar are dear friends to Diddy and Tux.
iSony Confederacy: Well, there would be many Playstation exclusives that would like to use Linux, but Crash Bandicoot isn't one of them in my story. He has an appetite for Wumpa Fruit which looks very similar to an apple. I don't know much about Apple Inc. or Playstation exclusive characters, but I do know that they are still alive and well today and plenty in numbers. While there are some apparently cute and funny characters produced by Sony, they are not nearly as cute as Nintendo characters and there are characters that are far more serious and mature-rated than just about anything Nintendo produced, such as Kratos, one of Master Chief's biggest Playstation rivals. I guess I explained the connection of Sony and Apple in my previous paragraph. Ultimately, it seems as it all comes down to users and fans, because the Diddy and Tux Universe is based more solely on fandom than it is on actual copyrighted material. As for the alliance between Sony and Apple, I guess the reason for the collaboration might be based solely on the usage of hardware. There is one comment on YouTube regarding "Get a Mac" commercials which I must say was given by a proud Playstation fan and Apple user. He was fine with a Mac for a personal computer, an iPhone I guess to play music and to use as a smartphone, and a Playstation to play all his video games and watch all his movies, including Blu Ray Discs that require 3D glasses to watch. While Diddy Kong and Tux might share rebellious feuds against the specific letdowns of Microsoft based on their fanbases, Sony's united feud with Apple against Microsoft is far more legitimate, commercial, and professional. Apple Inc. is the top commercial competitor of Microsoft, whereas Linux seems more rather like a hobby, a non-profit organization, and an emerging third side of the war. Likewise, it is Sony that commercially and openly rivals Microsoft in terms of gaming industry as opposed to the more independent Nintendo.
The Mainstream Console/OS War: Sony and Microsoft are a rivalry serving big boy gamers that are into the latest and hottest titles with the best graphics, not nostalgia seekers fetching after old classics that define gaming history. Microsoft is as much of a commercial rival of Sony as it is of Apple. As of such, Apple likewise attempts to produce Macs to be more reliable for users attempting to find alternatives to Microsoft. Now, of the games that I would consider bridge the gap between iSony and Microsoft, I would consider the mainstream games with heavy hard-core online multiplayer support, same as most PC games these days to be the bridging gaps between iSony and Microsoft, such as Call of Duty for example. Call of Duty 1, as I heard, was one of the first Playstation exclusive titles same as Spyro or Crash Bandicoot. Likewise, Call of Duty 2 was one of the three original Xbox 360 release titles, same as Perfect Dark Zero and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Maybe this is the reason why I have the MMORPG logo on the bottom to bridge the gap between Sony, Apple, and Microsoft. As a result, I found it appropriate to begin the tale of Diddy Kong and Tux as they attempt to forge a brotherhood and an alliance to join the fight with the already large empires of Sony, Apple, and Microsoft.
Google and Electronic Arts: Finally, it is the empire that sits smack in the middle ground of all three sides of the Console OS Wars. Both Google and EA are so mainstream that I figured it would be appropriate that their content and products are to be considered neutral ground or to be part of the "Gaia faction." This would make sense as Maxis, who until recently, has developed a strong monopoly in the genre of city simulator, and that monopoly is called the SimCity franchise. I guess any of the three sides can claim any of these cities as their own and can use them strategically to plan for their conquest. Google owns YouTube, the most popular private video sharing website of today. I'd say private video because actual movies produced by public commercial film industries are to be more likely watched on Netflix or Hulu than on YouTube. YouTube, however, is the one website to go if you want to see a walkthrough or a let's play series for either giving you tips on how to beat a game or to just simply watch a professional play a video game as if you're watching a TV series or a movie. However, I find that Google and EA's monopoly on the software industry can be so annoying that the once neutral faction would one day become the absolute common enemy to all three sides of the Console Wars, causing them all to unite under the common banner of Valve Corporation to battle the monopoly and restore the freedom of competition to the people. This is how I imagine the Console OS Wars to end, as it does that way with Diddy and Tux. Diddy Kong would renounce his war against Rareware Loyalists to deal with the lore of my original content, especially regarding the monguins, which he would rescue from the captivity of Maxis; Master Chief would fight to win back Commander Shepherd and the Mass Effect franchise which went downhill after it switched from Microsoft to EA; The Prince of Persia would fight his own battles alongside the Brotherhood of Assassins holding Crash Bandicoot's Piece of Eden against EA and Google.
