Poor Diddy Kong! He just wanted to have a nice swim in some of his favorite coral reefs but he had to get himself caught in the seaweed and get tickled by that swordfish friend of his! Engarde just couldn't resist Diddy Kong's cute belly button.EDIT: In my opinion, cute bellies and navels are always cutest underwater. That's why I chose this environment.

Yeah, I usually draw him a bit chubby because I figured that's part of the appeal of his character.

I never dared drawing him this chubby, since I always thought of him as the light one of the DKC duo. X3

In fact, if you think about it, I think Rareware was actually inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog as a character when they made Diddy Kong. Remember when he was created, Sega was dominating the gaming market with the Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy. 1994 was the year Sonic 3 and Knuckles came out.
In this case, we're talking about Rareware trying to make Donkey Kong Jr. cuter than Sonic with a more ticklish tummy, baby face, and a smaller, lighter, more agile stature.
Nintendo did not like these radical changes to Donkey Kong Jr. and decided to make him a separate character altogether, Diddy Kong. Obviously, it worked! Remember, hadn't been for Diddy's insane charm, there never would have been Banjo and Kazooie and neither there would have been Conker because there never would have been Diddy Kong Racing.

I actually find that his belly actually hangs out of his shirt a bit in his source material. Though, obviously, he's not fat like Klump or K Rool. Just to the point where his torso is about roughly the same size as his head and is round, very much like Sonic the Hedgehog in the earlier games.

Actually, Diddy's pictures these days are so huge, you can get an HD wallpaper of just his belly alone.
