Description If you recall, a while back I posted an image about that episode of Timon & Pumbaa where they merged together at the end. Well, this episode of the Timon & Pumbaa cartoon, Special Defects, definitely tops it! I honestly didn't know this episode even existed until a couple of people pointed it out to me. After watching it, I'm kind of surprised it isn't more well-known. In the episode, Timon & Pumbaa argue with each other and Rafiki gets involved. This is plot of another episode, but it's done different here. You see, Rafiki swaps their "personalities". So Pumbaa gets Timon's bossiness, and Timon gets Pumbaa's stench. I guess Pumbaa's stench is just so strong that it classifies as a personality?

Anyway, they order Rafiki to change them back. However, they move and end up head-swapped. Are we sure this isn't Jam in Rafiki's body messing with them? On a side-note, I always thought it was cool that Rafiki did ACTUAL magic on the show. In the movies, his magic was more spiritual in that he could talk to the spirits of deceased lion kings. In this show, he's basically a wizard that can tons of crazy with his magic. I love that aspect of him so much!

Anyway, after the two get head-swapped, we have this great scene of them walking through the jungle and getting mocked by all the various animals. This would've been a great time to throw in some Lion King regulars and have them laugh at Timon & Pumbaa's expense as well, but sadly we don't get that. Rafiki then tries to swap them back, only for them to move again and Timon's body ending up without a head. Then they chase his headless body around for a bit, then everyone gets swapped back and a moral is learned: Respect others for their differences. Though I think the real moral is that you should never let Rafiki swap bodies with Jam, because this is what you get.

Anyway, fun little episode and great concept. I just wish more people knew about this. The episode is on Disney+ and it's weird I got the screenshot, but sadly the quality isn't the best. On top of this, I don't know how long the service will be around. Disney's bleeding cash right now and I imagine once the cuts start coming in, Disney + will be one of the first things to go. So, go out and watch this episode if you have the service! If not, get the free trial and watch it. Cuz man, it's a good ep.

I remember this a little! Rafiki having magical powers was a cool idea.  I liked this show a lot as a kid.

I liked it a lot too! And I loved the fact that Rafiki could do magic on this show, it was awesome.

Ooo, damn: this is one heck of a goofy concept for an episode!

I watched this show a bit growing up, but I COMPLETELY forgot about Rafiki having actual powers. I may have a serious bias whenever magic and TF is involved, but that element alone is what sticks out to me here XD

Lemme know if you ever do a story where Jam swaps bodies with Rafiki and abuses his powers-- I may be compelled to draw something for it~

Maybe I'll make that a story sometime, I do have a lot of freetime this week. And yeah, it is a goofy concept and I digs it. A Jam and Rafiki swap would be great, old swapping with young. Scientific swapping with magic. Monkey swapping with baboon/mandrill. Just a great concept all around.

Ah yes, this episode!

I love the crazy swapping shenanigans. Is it weird that I want them to stay like this? I also love the little touch of Pumbaa having to support his head on Timon's body; giving how cartoon-y this show is, they didn't really have to do that.

One thing I will say, after watching it recently, the headless Timon bit is kind of unnecessary. They focus Timon's headless body too much when they could've had antics with Timon and Pumbaa trying to control the same body at once. Or maybe even scrap the whole sequence and have a montage of various swapped body parts while Rafiki tries to turn them back to normal.

Regardless, I'm happy with what we got and I agree with you, its a good ep.

Yeah, I agree the headless Timon bit was unnecessary. And yeah, the concept of them just swapping heads is great. Especially cuz a lot of these duo shows (like Snookums and Meet or Ren and Stimpy) will never usually body-swap/head-swap the two protagonists unless it's for a gag. Two Stupid Dogs did a body-swap episode though, and that was great. But anywho, yeah it was a great ep. And honestly, I'd prefer if they stayed this way! Loved the mismatched heads and the fact that Pumbaa had to support his head, like you said. Really great episode.
