I think that's because I've grown tired of Twilight after four years of her being the focus.
Sunset was created to just be a one-shot villain, but they accidentally gave her the most interesting backstory in the entire MLP-verse. I'm happy that as of Rainbow Rocks, they seem to finally be aware of Sunny's potential.

Oh come on. We all TOTALLY did this to her at the end of the movie due to you-know-what. Her conversations with Twilight confirm that, literally, the only difference btw. her and Twilight is that Twilight had a family/role models to look up to, whereas all Sunset had was Celestia, so she wanted to be like Celestia in EVERY way, instead of how Twilight saw her, as she had her family to help with... Hard to explain my headcanon, sorry.
