Description
In mid Cretaceous Africa, around 83 million years ago, a juvenile Sarcosuchus imperator sticks its head out of the water to nip at a carcass at the shore of its shallow river home. The carcass belongs to a ten year old Paralititan stromeri, which was killed by a young Carcharodontosaurus saharicus, the apex predator of the region. Seeing the little crocodyliform bite at its lunch, the theropod responds in anger, roaring at the smaller carnivore. If the youngster doesn't slip back underwater in time, it may become the the Carcharodontosaurus' side dish.In the water that is still concealing most of the young Sarcosuchus, an Onchopristis numida sawfish swims about, occasionally sifting through the riverbed with its long nose to expose shellfish - its preferred prey. Meanwhile, a pair of coelacanths swim in the opposite direction, surrounded by three groups of smaller fish. A member of one group is unfortunate enough to get ambushed and killed by a snake that is hiding in the riverside mud. Another has established itself more towards the bottom, but it must come to the surface for air every now and then - a task made dangerous by the many other predators of the river.
Back on land, the skies are graying, and clouds of even darker color roll in - the only warning of an incoming rainstorm. It is to be expected, since the monsoon season has just recently begun. Behind the Carcharodontosaurus, a pair of trees sit next to a rock, and all three objects live in the shadows of two towering mountains that loom over the landscape.
Thanks for looking at my deviation, I had lots of fun making this, and if you wanna see more like it, please tell me!
