"Wait for me, alright? I'll come back and we'll find somewhere safer, okay? I will come back," Damien told his younger brother before leaving. Nico waited for the day his brother would return, but it never came. Those walking corpses forced him to leave. He scavenged what ever seemed useful and could fit into his messenger bag, and he left. For a while he was on his own, setting traps near his little camp and killing any dead that came close.Β
In that time alone, he relived the events that led up to this. He was at home with his brother, Damien, his mother was at the market getting groceries for dinner, and he didn't have a father to remember. The brothers were in the living room just sitting and talking when the phone rang. He remembered Damien's reaction to the phone call from their mother. The pale face, wide eyes, shaky voice... it scared Nico to see his brother that way.Β Nico could barley hear his mother's rasping, pained voice as she sobbed apologies and farewells before the call hung up. They tried calling her again, but there was no answer. Something was wrong. Damien cautiously went to the window. "Nico, come here..." Damien ordered. He did as he was told and what he saw out the window shocked him. There were people attacking each other, biting and ripping apart limbs from bodies. They were grotesque in appearance with their rotting flesh and bloody forms. "Wh-what is that?! What's going on?!" Nico asked feeling panicked. "Come on, we have to get somewhere safe," his brother replied. They packed food, supplies, water, and a battery-powered radio before going upstairs to their mother's room to get the pistol and packages of bullets their mother kept locked in the dresser by her bed. While upstairs, the sound of pounding on the door and breaking glass shattered the tense silence. "We have to get out of here," Nico hissed under his breath. Damien loaded the gun and took a deep breath, "We are." BANG! BANG! BANG!
Gunshots snapped Nico out of thoughts and he jumped to his feet. He wasn't sure on what move to make, but decided to venture out of the "safe zone" that was his camp and scout out his surroundings. Gunshots meant survivors. And survivors could mean Damien...

He stared at her like she was crazy for a moment then laughed. "Well that sums it up very nicely. Now I know," he chuckled. "Do you know how to do a fake step over shot? Or a side knee in soccer?"

"I know, Im so smart" she laughed "Not really, I tried soccer....I fell and that was the end of my try" she laughed, she was not a very persistent person.Β

He laughed, "Well those moves are some of the hardest moves to master. If you gave up so easily in soccer then why haven't you given up on horse riding? You fall in that too and sometimes those falls are worse."

"I-I dont know, Im weird" she shrugged as she stared outside the walls of the community, as she spotted several silhouettes in the distance "Wha? are those....oh my god" it made her sick, hundreds, even thousands of walkers "A herd of em...oh god" she said her voice trembling and she seemed sick and pale.Β

"Geez...there's so many of them..." he said, Β eyes wide and staring at the herd of walkers.

"You think the fences are gonna hold this place?" she asked, her breaths were fast and short, and she was very afraid.Β

"Yeah. They should be fine," he said. He knew she was afraid and wanted to try calm her fears so he gave her a pat on the shoulder and a reassuring smile. Β "Don't worry about it so much," he said. "Those fences are meant to protect us so of course they'd be strong enough to do so."

"Ok, I just hope they do, I'd rather die then become one of them...." she sighed, those were her best friends last words, she hated saying them. Though she was right, who would want to be one of those...things, eat your own kind, unable to control your own actions, i mean, who would want that?

"I'm sure they will," he replied with a nod. Of course he hated the very idea of becoming one of those things.

"Yeah I hope" she said as they started banging on the fence next to them "eek!" she screamed as she jumped back

He held back a laugh and stepped back and away from the fence. "We're okay. They can't get to us," he said.Β

"Ok....I hope..." she siad shooting a couple out of fear, and stepping farther away from the fence and sighed "Im sorry Im just dead scared of them"

"It's alright. I get it, " he said, "they can be rather...scary. " He turned his back on the fence and began making his way towards the middle of the camp. "Come on. I think you'd be better off if you were away from here."

"Yeah" she said as they walked everybody gave her dirty looks, not many newbies were very easily accepted.

He sighed. "Just ignore them. They act like towards all the newbies." He continued to walk as he put his hands in his pockets. It annoyed him how everyone treated new members.

"Yeah, used to it, used to happen all the time in my school, used to be, the wierd kid, hah, atleast 90% of my teachers are dead now, well, half dead at least" she laughed.

"I guess we were on opposite sides of the school social life spectrum. Hm... I have no idea what happened to the people at my school, " he said.

"I do, and I've seen it, trust me, you dont want to...Unless it's the principal, and you get to shoot off his head" she joked.

He laughed. "You're a funny little newbie," he chuckled.

"I've got that lot" she laughed, as she saw many people panicking because of a mass of walkers on the south wall "That doesn't look like it's gonna hold" she said getting serious.

"We should see if they need our help," he said as he was already making his way towards the south wall.

"Come on, the fence is bending, hurry up!" she said running straight in there.Β

He runs to help. "This would be a good time to have a gun."

"Got it covered" she said throwing him a gun, she had a couple in her bag, just incase one failed to work. She started shooting her way through them though there were too many.

"Thanks" he said as he caught the gun. He quickly took aim and fired at the walkers that were too close.Β

"We need to get people away from here! This things gonna go down fast" she screamed as she felt herself be grabbed and she turned to see a walker about to bite her, she shot it and moved on to the closest ones to her. "NICO! BEHIND YOU!" she screamed.

He turned around in time to shoot a walker that was about to bite him. "That was too close for comfort!" he shouted, Β "thanks for the save!" He shot at more walkers while moving people away from the collapsing wall.

"Oh god" she said as she backed away and shot, it was a sickening sight. She saw a couple people get eaten and mauled, and she decided to not throw up, and try get past it.

A million thoughts ran through Nico's head, he was panicking. He couldn't believe this was happening. He cursed under his breath upon seeing members being eaten and ripped apart. He continued shooting. Pretty soon he'd be out of bullets...

"We need to get people out of here! NOW!" she screamed as a couple of them grabbed her, yet she threw them down, with a couple tries of course, she was just a little girl. and kept shooting. "Tell me when your out of ammunition!" she screamed over the noise.

"You get people out of here! I'll take care of the walkers!" he yelled as he tried to keep them away.

"Ok!" she said helping people out of the mess and getting them on the other side of camp, and made her way back to Nico.

Nico and a few others had killed the last remaining walkers that had managed to get into the camp. Someone threw a flashbang bomb to draw attention away from the broken wall. He was glad it was over but felt guilt for losing some members.

"Are you ok" she asked her eyes filled with fear and worry, she had just made friends with Nico, she couldn't bear it if he was bit. "Are you bit?" she asked, and she felt stupid, of course he wasn't bit, she had seen him, but she just wanted to make sure.Β

He shook his head. "No, I'm not bit or anything..." he sighed. He could seee her worry so he patted her head and forced a smile. "I'm fine, Cathrine, really."

"o-Ok" she said sighing, looking through the crowd hoping to find her best friend and her family restlessly, she was about to cry when she couldn't find them anywhere, she knew they were all dead, she just hoped, and HOPED she would find them.

"Hey, what's wrong? Are you looking for someone?" he asked as he noticed her looking around and did so as well. Seeing her on the verge of tears made him want to comfort her if he could. After all, they were friends and he couldn't imagine the things she's been through.

"Its stupid....Im looking for my friend and parents...but I know they're dead...Im so stupid" she hated at herself, clenching her hand in a fist.

He patted her on the head and gave her a sad smile. "It's not stupid. I do that too sometimes for my brother..."Β

She smiled a bit, but she was still mad at herself "Well atleast we made it through the night but we need people to fix the wall" she said pointing at a second wave of them

"They're getting a group together to rebuild the wall." Β Nico shrugged. "We can stay here and keep the walkers away."

"Ok" she said nervously looking around once more before giving up and aiming her gun so she was ready to shoot when they got close.

"If worse comes to worse, you get out of here, ok?" he said then tossed her the gun she had lent him. "Out of ammo," he said as he took out his machete.

"Dammit.....Im not going anywhere! Im standing my ground!" she said shooting a couple that got to close. 'so close yet so far...' she though to herself as some struggled to put up a defense and replacement for the fence.

He frowned. "Dont get bit then." He ran at a pack of walkers and used the momentum to cut their heads off. "And don't die."

"Gee thanks, I didint know that" she laughed and kicked a couple down, using a domino effect, and shot them both. Moving on to the ones closer to the wall, she could hear footsteps behind her yet she figured it was a person and moved on.Β

He laughed and headed for the fence to better defend the camp.

"Come They've almost got the fence we just need a WAH!" she screamed as she was thrown down by on of them as she shot it and more heard the commotion.

He whipped around to help her and went cutting down walkers that came close. "What did I say about not dying?" he shouted then gave a tired grin. He turned to check the fence. "Come on," he said, grabbing her hand to pull her along.

"Sheesh sorry" she giggled "WOAH!" he said as she felt him pull her and she ran along.
