Description The Orffs are a strange race, and thus one of the most interesting. The eye's pupil 'orbits' the iris, which I don't know if is possible or not. The skin is clear, and the inner organs are seemingly visible -- though what is visible are mere distractions, false spots that draw attention away from the real or sensitive organs. They also talk quickly, like the Garatrons, except they don't use

The Orff only had one appearance in the series, and that book took place in a false future where the Animorphs were discovered and the Yeerks took over the Earth.
They are *possibly* the entity/entities that made the false future, since Orffs are the only "new" thing introduced in the book (everything else being taken from Jake's memories).

Also shown are a pair of the neat biological/mechanical handcuffs one Orff 'cop' had.

neat transparent body, i love how the Orffs have a central iris and the orbiting pupil.

Now what biological purpose would having transparent skin be?

To mislead an attacker. Someone could try to stab an Orff in the bright blue lung and have their knife/tail blade/whatever broken by a hard bone that only looks like a lung.

Good logic. Though they might be just falso spots.

I think the book said something about it too. I still have a bunch of the books around, but not that one.

That's what the Animorphs wiki is for.

Yep, the wiki confirms it.

I wonder if any real creatures are like that. I looked it up and got nothing.

There is an x-ray fish which kinda does that.

You know what they say: science fact equals science fiction plus time.

... why did I imagine that in GLaDOS' voice?

Because it's something she would say, I suppose.

true.

It is true though. Many of the elements of older science fiction have been invented. For example, Star Trek predicted the cell phone.

Very well done. However:

I think what K.A. meant by the iris orbiting the pupil wasn't that the pupil lay outside the iris (as that would be impossible by definition). I think she meant that the iris's aperture (the pupil) lay on the periphery of the iris whilst moving along the circumference.

Just a thought

That makes a lot of sense, and I feel rather foolish for never even thinking of that.

Your pupil orbiting your iris would be a bit like your mouth orbiting your lips, so . . . I can only assume it's yet another bizarre anatomical illusion on the Orff's part.

I like your drawing. I forgott how the pupil orbits the iris.

Wow, that's really neat. And somewhat creepy. O_o I'm surprised Jake didn't have a heart attack when he first saw one. Punch it the clearest spot you can find, dude!
