November 9, 1938 - Kristallnacht. While the sounds of terrified screams and smashing windows reverberate through 22-year-old Max Steinmarder's small neighborhood in Stuttgart, Germany, his desperate mother thrusts forged identity papers into his hand and pushes him out the door.
